Description
Series: Mobile Suit Gundam 0083: Stardust MemoryThis is the GP01 Full Vernian Zephyranthes from the Gundam 0083: Stardust Memories OVA series. This machine is essentially the GP01 Zephyranthes , though with numerous improvements for use in space. The original GP01 is basically a ground unit -- in many respects basically a beefed up RX-78-2.
The model is basically a copy of the GP01 I made earlier. The head is identical, but the chassis/backpack is slightly different in order to accomodate the corefighter's upgraded space use thrusters (unfortunately they are all but impossible to see in this image except through the mirror). The shoulder armor has been replaced with protrusions that contains thrusters/verniers. The verniers can retract when not in use. The same is true with the yellow "vents" in the chest (actually verniers hidden underneath the flaps). Skirt plates have been attached and the lower legs have been redone. The feet are actually the same size but now have extension units that give it "clown feet"... I'm not really into it. The shield is the same.
The gun used by the GP01Fb is "about" the same as the GP01's. But I thought it was boring so I replaced it with a 240mm folding cannon designed by Takayuki Yanase (incidentally a mechanical designer in the upcoming Gundam 00 series) in one of his illustration books. Otherwise, the GP01fb never uses this cannon.
I should say that I rather like the GP01 over the FB version...

The Zeph was never one of my favorites -- it always seemed really bland in comparison to the other 0083 Gundam units. Plus Kou was a bit of a spaz.
That said, I really like this image. I'm not sure if it was intentional, but having the backpack obscured a bit like you do makes it seem like you're trying to portray both types at once, which is a neat effect. The Solar System is a nice touch.

What kind of mirror is that, floating around in space? I haven't seen that before...

It's a "colony mirror". I had previously made a makeshift space colony using the O'neill Cylinder design, a design used heavily in the gundam series. Some of the colony can be seen in the reflection. The mirror (1 of 3) would be designed to reflect solar rays into the colony cylinder.

great work, and sandrum hehe im gona ask again is this series any good? , kinda looking to watch a new gundam series but i cant rely deal with anything older thand gundam wing :/ , sorry to bug you but i dont know anyother big gundam fans :/

This one is 2 or 3 years before wing was released. The animation is still pretty good. Personally, even though the series is short, I think the story is far better than Wing's and less convoluted and generally less "super robot"-ish.

Yeah, stacks of them at ToysRus Japan. I don't know if the US carries them in regular stores. If you can do internet orders, I hear that Rainbowten [link] (despite its bizarre email ordering system), seems to be one of the best and seems to have it in stock.
