When I get into those emotional funks, I try them to look at it from a diagnostic perspective. I am a systems analyst by trade. What makes things tick, including me? What is my goal, today? Or even for the hour? Or even for "this painting"? They can be different for different days too. That is a miracle of life.
The world never sees our inner self. We would all be appalled at each other's thoughts, and then have to laugh out loud.
