Looks Lovecraftian, like a flying polyp or something. Since the guy is just standing there on that girder, I am going to assume that he is unaware of the beastie coming through the gate, and is also unaware that he is going to be lunch to the "sundew intestine".
Or he IS aware, and is welcoming his pet back from wherever it had decided to go for a walk. (If walk is the right word in this case.)
As for the painting itself: Nice! I like that beastie, whatever it is. And I like how the society used "found objects" and recycling to make their gateway.

those gates are relics now and the creatures are harmless.they come and go whenever they want.the man is just scouting the areea well aware of the creature.no harm will be done
