Description I'd recently caught some annoying eye related conditions which has somewhat hampered my ability to perform any vision based activities (For me, that's pretty much everything really. XD). That being said, I still wanted to get some quick practices done, just to keep myself sharp. These are some ponies I did in the past day or two, mostly exploring the attire of ponies from the Frozen North.

If I can keep drawing through this teary eyes, I might just do a few more explorations into the Northern tsardom before I return to working on Ponyhammer works. That is, when keeping my eyes open doesn't feel like having flaming pencils stuck through them.

Before I forget, I'd like to thank some of the people that were kind enough to give me their suggestions on sanity-x.deviantart.com/art/Tz… . All that feedback is helping a great deal as I ponder about this idea, especially since I'm not particularly well versed on many aspects of Eastern European history, language, culture and tradition. Any more ideas and suggestions about the subject will be more than appreciated. ^_^

It's good to see you're working on your Frozen North idea.

As always your designs are excellent.  Love your Cossack.

Its funny, I just started painting miniatures of Teutonic Knights. I wonder what Teutonic Pony's would look like? Lots of armor and chainmail...

I'll definitely consider the many cultures around the region to incorporate into this idea, along with those beyond its borders. Everything is really in its infancy, so do be patient and keep an open mind. ^_^

Ya can combine the 2. I understand that the Valhallans of the Equestrian Guard are fond of Leman Rush Battletanks.

Cossacks aren't from from frozen north, actually. All their history they lived around of Black Sea and it's quite warm there
..Or I didn't get the reference...

I'm just exploring the idea of Cossacks as a collection of autonomous independent communities, living within the borders of the Ice Princess' domains. Whether they're mirror counterparts to the actual Cossacks of our world, I'm not sure.

I'm not quite certain how I'm going to deal with the weather in the Frozen North, but I'm considering having seasons where ponies can tend to their golden fields of wheat and enjoy the warm sunny weather once in a while. Just a thought. ^_^

Here's a few pictures that transmit the climate of the Novgorod area. Just for inspiration)

Well, unless you're going to do the classic icy tundra, you can take an example from reality. Neithgorod could be similar to its "namesake" - there are cold snowy winters and moderately warm summers in Novgorod. There's a lot of plains, forests, lakes and marshes.

Thanks for the references, Preobrazhenets! ^_^

I'm trying to hit a balance of a somewhat more moderate climate for the south-western cities, like Mareskov, Tersk, Orlovgrad and Neighgorod, and it gets chillier as it goes further north towards St. Peppersburg and beyond. All of these are working names atm.

Lol, you are so original) But i doubt about Peppersburg - for Slavic style it is not suitable. Too modern, too much of foreign influence.

Still messing around with the idea, so the names are just there, for now. ^_^
