The Mesoamericans are not mythical but the creatures and symbols they wore and worshipped certainly are mythical creatures. Look more closely at your character and what he is wearing(serpents) and the actual calender itself. They had a much broader and expansive idea on how things worked but they characterized constellations and planets much like we did with the zodiacs, astronomy and astrology. They used symbols to sum things up, to characterize and simplify. When I studied astronomy I remember dealing with things in the powers of 10, it was the only way to attempt to wrap your head around things mathmatically when your dealing with such gigantic numbers. Its hard to believe the Mayans were doing much more complicated calculations so long ago. The Greeks and Eygptians were pretty amazing as well. I think what we actually really know about them is more based on myth than evidence. I think only about 15% of the Mayan language has been decoded and that only revealed lineages and family trees. Its all a mystery. No ones knows whats going to happen on Dec 12, 2012 and to suggest that it is over is quite a mythical concept don't you think? If you speak to any Mexicans, they don't believe the world is going to end. They think its going to turn over like any other calender. The doomsday stuff has all been the invention of the American media and American researchers. It makes great TV. It sells books and magazines. But none of it is based in fact. We know when the calender begins and ends. That's all folks.
Thanks for creating something wonderful. Its a great piece. Its a great concept and for me your piece encompasses this whole thing in a nutshell. I would definitely buy this on a t-shirt. I would vote for it in the contest. It embodies symbols of mythical creatures and thats good enough for me. It is an awesome parody. People automatically get it. You are really onto something here. Good job. Its a winner.

There is an old joke I learned a few years back.
A group of Mayans were helping assemble the calendar.
Worker 1: "hey, it's break time. Time to eat".
Worker 2: "But we're almost done! We got one more circle to add and that's it"
Worker 3: "How about we just a 5 minute drink of cacao and then get back? That way, we'll be feeling better and get this done sooner and enjoy the rest of the day off. Ok?"
