well actually, thats not really true.. with the procutter tool that comes with max we can fragment an object really easy too.. just with a couple of planes as cutters you can get amazing results instantly.. and adding a noise modifier to the planes will result in exactly the same result as what rayfire does too.. one of the two engines that rayfire works with is actually based on these two modifiers when it comes to cutting up objects.. what does make it very handy is that rayfire is a physics engine too, so calculating an simulation can be directly done inside rayfire too which speeds up the process a lot, although with the new max 2014 they removed reactor and replaced it with physicx so maybe its even easier to build up the animation right inside physicx now.. so we can have a particle system, a cloth system, a hair system and all kind of different physics being simulated all at the same time through one engine

I have played more with ProBoolean than ProCutter, so I don't know much about it. There is also the awesome Voroni fragmenter script that does quite a nice job too - quick and easy! I have tried MassFX only in Max 2012, so I am not sure what changed in version 2014. I think they integrated the cloth sim with MassFX, so it can now participate in other simulations all together. That is something even the free Bullet Engine can do on its own, so it's about time MAX can handle it too.

if you ever decide to upgrade this version, you should make the ground shake (the view screen would move a bit as a result of an aftershock from Hulks pounding the ground)
