Isn't it a bummer that V4 has so many material zones when you import her into MAX? It's basically 2-3 textures spread over like 20+ materials. >___<

SaphireNishi In reply to ken1171 [2012-05-12 00:44:10 +0000 UTC]
oh yeah, but the good thing is we can merge all meshes together and the break the whole v4 apart again on the uv mapping and the apply those 3 maps again.. then you only have 3 materials on 3 different meshes to worry about.. makes live a lot easier...

I like to keep skin, lips, nails, and eyes separate, but I find it a pain to merge the materials in MAX. They could have a MAX script that merges all material zones that share the same textures. That could save us some time.

there are a lot of max scripts out there.. wouldnt surprise me if there was one for this as well...

If not, maybe I will have to create my own Max Script to do just that. I can do some basic stuff in MaxScript, but this would require some more study. Just that alone would make me render more in Max. ^^

its not that hard it get the basics of the scripting under control.. i tried once some more advanced stuff but i only hurt my brain a lot with trying that...

I did some programming in MaxScript, but only basic stuff like deleting all lights from a scene, and things like that. The most advanced programming I tried in MAX was to create a "procedural forest generator" where all trees were made of primitives. The trick for this script would be on how to select all materials that have the same textures applied, and then merge them together. I should check into that when I have the chance. Would make Poser rendering in MAX much easier to do.

Amazing, the use of materials, glows and reflections I find perfect.
and the design is mindblowing, keep on. ;]

Perfect! I just got Portal last weekend, and I love it This looks as if it's straight out of the game. I can't spot a single pixel of flaw.

SaphireNishi In reply to KiraDessNyaa [2012-05-13 22:08:15 +0000 UTC]
haha.. no you said photoshop.. you can make a 2d image with photoshop.. this is a 3d object.. which means if you open it up in a 3d program you can rotate around it and look from different side to it.. did you ever watch movies like shrek or tangled ? the way they made those movie is how i made this portal gun too.. its exactly the same thing... so no photoshop...

haha.. well its actually a bit more complicated then this.. cause you can open 3d objects in photshop now as well but thats only in the last version of photoshop.. also i need photoshop to make textures for the 3d object.. but ill stop here otherwise ill drive you really crazy...
