about pictures against the light, or light at the bottom, mark a glow around the body, silhouette lights at some points.
the shadows that are beneath her are the ones that look strange, if very marked just below your feet but after should be more diffuse, but as scattered ...
is easier if you see a photo that I trying to explain, try to find a reference picture as the render you did with a girl in a dress ... but most are pictures of naked girls ...

thanks a lot for the links .. but the glow around the body is actually a choice of the artist whether to get it or not.. its not necessarily there.. its an camera option.. it has to do with the aperture settings.. the problem in 3d is when want to have that glow you on a part where a transparency map is apply, like on the hair, it will give really weird results.. so you wont really see it in 3d works, except if artists do a lot of post working on end renders as well.. which i dont do.. i do see what you mean with the ground shadows.. what you referring to is what they call soft lighting shadows.. but again thats a end result of the lighting that has been used...
