While continuing their investigation, the Apollo, Concordium, and the Kor follow the protomatter trail to the world of Povin in the Mivic System where they find the aftermath of a battle between the Tzenkethi and the Povini, the warp-capable but reclusive species native to this system. In orbit, the find an assortment of wreckage with the majority of it being Povini. Despite the impressive sight of a destroyed Tzenkethi battleship, it's clear this battle was over before it began. Scans of the planet reveal that protomatter has scoured the planet of all life. However, a lone distress signal is detected near the debris field. Following the trail leads to the Bastion, a damaged crusier carrying over three hundred Povini survivors. Its commander, Egen Burren, directs the Apollo to the site of several escape pods. After their retrieval, it is revealed to the horror of all assembled that the three hundred and ninety-seven survivors are all that remain of a population of...three billion. After trading the coordinates for Deep Space K-13 for the warp signatures of the Tzenkethi ships, the task force departs for the Jod'Cor System, their resolve to unravel this terrible mystery only strengthened.No matter what they find, the Tzenkethi will be called to account for their actions. Even if it means war.

The Tzenkethi are using protomatter bombs on various worlds to scour them of all biological matter. The only thing these worlds seem to have in common is the presence of strange crystal formations. Some of these worlds try to fight back, but so far all of them have failed.

I don't want to spoil it for anyone who hasn't played Star Trek Online. Sufficed to say, it's an attempt to cover up a terrible mistake that goes horribly wrong and the galaxy ends up paying the price for it.

It's an arc that starts in "Signs and Portents" and finishes with "Home". It's a hell of a story.
