Sam's the coolest character in the entire lord of the rings triology. I mean... hey, He's the only one in the entire history of the midlands who accually gives up the ring of free will.

He really is! He's my personal favorite, though I do adore them all. And it's true! Only he and Tom Bombadil have the Ring and give it up without any harm having been done to themselves. Sam has such incredible personal strength and integrity, and a sense of who he is and what his purpose in life is... I loves him!

Just finished the book yesterday, the ending seemed kind of bittersweet to me ;w; LOVED the book though, hoping to watch the movies this weekend~

Yes, they're absolutely amazing! I think I'm going to be obsessed with it for a while xD Aragorn's my favorite character, but a lot of them are awesome as well. I liked how Sam was so loyal to Frodo, especially at Mount Doom.
And good to know the movies will be good! My only objection to it is that I don't like Aragorn with a beard 
Now the other two books in the trilogy are on my holidays wishlist, I want to read them whenever I want now they're just too good to only read once xDD

Sam is my fave, though I adore them all, really ^__^ And, actually, I always imagined Aragorn with a beard, so that never bothered me. I mean, he's a Ranger! I bet he doesn't often have time to shave, poor guy...

Gandalf was essentially an angelic being. It's explained in the Silmarillion and hinted at here and there in LOTR. I think they explain it a bit in the appendices, too. Gandalf was sent by the Valar in human form as a guardian over the peoples of Middle Earth. He was brought back because his work wasn't done.
