This is really helpful! I didn't know about the floral tape thing. Majority of my problem is that my clay doesn't stick to foil. Then again, regular sculpey is more sticky than sculpeyIII.
When my clay does want to stick, I still have issues with things being way too lumpy and it really bothers me... I guess I just try to get it way too perfect and mess things up. ><
This is a great tutorial and very helpful! I'm sure it will help many others besides me.

:'D I'm so glad you found it helpful >w< I didn't know the stickiness to the foil about sculpeyIII, since I just use the regular so that's good to know. ^^

Whoa... There's a lot of love and attention that goes into each one of these lovely suckers. <3
I must seriously consider commissioning you. (: Do you ship the finished product to the owner? *feels dumb for asking*

Sara121089 In reply to RoyalBlackheart [2011-02-27 20:30:05 +0000 UTC]
I sure do ship them right to the owner <33 And remember, you look more dumb for not asking then asking... because if you didn't ask and by some chance I didn't send them, you'd feel pretty dumb then :3
Yes, each and every sculpture I make with a vision of the character, be it pokemon, OC, animal, etc, in my head with a specific pose- I give the commissioner the choice if they want a certain pose, any special items, markings, and more. ^^ I really treat each with a ton of love, and I pack them with a TON of care. (I've had 1 sculpture "crack" in the past, dang post offices.. but it was easily fixable I was told) I spend more money on bubble wrap than I do on clay I swear. XD But I wouldn't want them to get ruined on their way there >< all my hard work, and the commissioner is definitely not looking forward to a disassembled sculpture >_> XD
I'm always open for commissions, so take your time and no worries if you can't commission me due to funds ^^ (I'll be taking a week break of sculpting over spring break, going to be playing pokemon white >_> it comes out the day before my break starts XD)
-End rant-

That's understandable (: And you can be looking forward to me commissioning you in due time, no worries~ I wouldn't mind having a little sculpture of one of my OC's laying around my room >w<
Pokemon Black and White are coming out so soon?! Part of me one to buy one, and the other part of me says it'll be lame :c I dunno what to do!

It's coming out march 6th ^_^. I don't think it will be lame, there's so many new features, I like the idea that the chracters grew up a bit, and the multiplayer features. You should watch some of the anime, the new pokemon are so adorable <33 XD
Okay! Well I'll be here whenever you want to commission me x3 I'm on every day, almost all day >_> XD

I think you should call it a Wire Armature tutorial? I though what you meant by framing was.. how to place photos to make a good looking deviation, haha.
It's a great tutorial! I love how you make your faces, I shall have to remember that for when I sculpt faces. An awesome first tutorial.

No problem! I didn't really know what the wire base was called either, but most people call it an armature.

Sorry to post on this again, but I just noticed you were talking about looking for a more matte finish sealant. Not sure if you're tried this one, but I used Testor's Dullcote on one of my figures and it seemed to work great. It retained it's original clay looked, but is still very protected. I haven't noticed any sign of it becoming sticky or gummy either, although it was a much smaller figure. It is a spray, however, but I just thought I might mention it in case you were looking for something different.
Personally I really love the shiny look that the gloss glaze gives it.

I'm seeking out a non shiny glaze... *mod podge* is the best that I've found so far, but you have to coat it super thin (dilute it with water) and wait like a day between coats (slight over exaggeration) >.> or else it gets foggy. BUT after it cures, it looks like the regular unglazed version and it's nice and durable
Amazing tutorial by the way, I might have to try my hand at a larger sculpture using this method

I'm just cautious because I don't want to ruin something I've spent so long on lol... it's probably not as bad as what I've said... but I'm still continuing to look for another option because I've tried those spray glazes too and they're awful.
You're welcome! Thank you for making such an easy to follow tutorial!

Yes.. For a while when I was just starting out I pretty much ruined a few of mine. Sad really ... At least now I know never to use the sprays..

^_^ I sometimes find I like the unglazed versions better, but I haven't found a sealer that doesn't leave them shiny, and the sprays that are supposed to leave them sticky and gross! D: I'm glad you enjoyed it :3
Oh, Please feel free to add it to the art for me collection you have :3 Could you note me on how you did that so I could make one of those? XDD I wanted to make a folder for my adoptables sometime, and of course the art trades I've done. X3
