Description This was another class project for Washington State History.

Native American animal totems all denote certain qualities.
After our class had perused an extensive list of animal totems,
we were asked to choose the one that relates most closely to us.

I chose the moose for the following qualities:
self-esteem, confidence, strength, assertiveness, spontaneity, unpredictability, longevity, steadfastness, value, integrity, headstrongness, wisdom, pride, accomplishment, scrutiny, and attention to detail.

The moose is one of the most ancient Native American animal totems. He rouses the power of confidence through the recognition of ones own strengths, talents, and achievements. He is passionate and proud of who he is. The moose owns his gifts, speaks the truth, and knows exactly where he stands.

That is basically who I am, both the good and the bad, lol.

After selecting our totem, we were asked to draw our animal in the tribal way of the Native Americans.

So voila! Here is my moosey.
He is colored with fine-point sharpies, of course.

Drawn October 02, 2006.

So long as you're able to link back to my website ( like this: [link] ),
then sure, you absolutely can. I just want to make sure that it can be traced back to me somehow.

Hi again, I am currently doing a book on Cree elders and I'd like to feature this piece in the book possibly. Would you be open to that? I might be able to pay a few bucks. Let me know, thanks.

You know, I wouldn't recommend featuring it in a book because I can't guarantee
that this rendition of Native American art is accurate or specific to any one
tribe. I drew this years and years ago and my research skills were less than
stellar back then. If you still want to feature it, I would require a fee.

Beautiful, it is always interesting to see what other people's perception of Native American art looks like. The shapes and colors vary from tribe to tribe but you got the general idea of it (:

This is gorgeous. I love your attention to detail of the anatomy while still maintaining an abstract style. The use of red really brings out the strength, confidence and life that the Moose totem represents. Amazing <3

Wow, thank you! That really means a lot to me. I'm so glad you liked it. It doesn't
get a lot of attention here on deviantART, so it's nice to know others appreciate the design
and the meaning behind it. I did work very hard to balance everything. Thanks for the love!

Yeah that is a sad thing about dA: things people work hard on often gets ignored for vapid junk. But I think even one comment makes it worthwhile

So is that moose totem thing (not the picture but the writing) from a specific washington tribe or a more general Native belief?
