I'm feeling a bit under the weather, and I've found that trying to draw super happy things when I'm not feeling super happy doesn't really work. I'm currently in the chokehold of a super art block, so I took it out on poor Ratchet. I pondered coloring it, but with how hard it was to even draw this at all, I decided not to.Music:[link]
I like to imagine that Ratchet wouldn't take the loss of Alister as well as the game made it out that he did. Again, wishing there was more emotion to the story, but whatever.
Gonna go get some Dayquil now D:

Judging from the change in Ratchet's personality, I think Alister's death really did affect him. I mean, he was ready to retire like the next game! Of course, that didn't happen, then along comes the Prog twins, reminding Ratchet not only of what he could have been had he let his desires steer his decisions, but of how that same mistake led to the death of Alister. At the end of Into the Nexus, it definitely seemed like there was something going on in Ratchet's head. He made the decision to move on.

I was disappointed in how poorly Insomniac handled Ratchet's emotions in the Future series too. Both finding Clank and rescuing him, as well as Aleister's death, should have meant something much more to him. I can understand not wanting to make the kids sad and all, but honestly, if you're going to deal with that, for pity's sake, DEAL WITH IT! Finding Clank and being almost joking about it just baffles me. I have a fic posted on Fanfiction.net, and it's very emotional. Despite the fact that it's way unfinished, it's still crazy big, but I think it does Ratchet as a person very well.
Anyway, rambled on long enough when I was going to praise your art. Very Insomniac looking. I love it.

Wow, I really like this one. The blank space above his head makes him look even smaller, and it's very emotional, really - becomes more emotional as I listen to the song and think about it.

- Well, whenever I write as Ratchet, whenever someone brings up Alister, Ratchet gets sad. I hope that makes up for the lack of sad emotion that the end of ACiT provided.

If I remember correctly we didn't see at all how Ratchet did take Alister's death except for the few seconds where he bowed down his head. We don't know how long the time skip is when Ratchet says goodbye to Clank, during this time Ratchet could have mourned for the other Lombax. But then I guess he hadn't known him long enough, it could be he didn't feel that deeply - sad, maybe guilty as he couldn't save Alister, but more in a way you mourn for an aquaintance you've didn't know much of, but still liked them.
The game didn't provide enough interaction between them to tell how much Ratchet feels for Alister compared to friends he has made (like Talwyn, Al, Clank etc.).
I think said it before, you're amazing with poses. Ratchet has curled into himself, hugging his knees while pressing his face against his arms - making him small, vulerable. We can't see his whole face, not even the eyes, but I can see his brows knitted together and his drooping ears tell the rest on how feels. Hurt, sad, depressed, small - lonely. It makes me wonder where Clank is, if he would leave his best friend some time alone and if Ratchet would want to be alone at all.

I too wish that Ratchet showed more emotion to Alister's death in the game. He did take it incredibly well which kinda skewed the believability at the end of the game a bit... even so it was still a nice ending with Clank joining in last minute.
