Still such an incredible movie, though...it basically defined our imagery of what virtual reality looks like.

It's the good kind of tedious, though...detail-adding tedious, as opposed to grass tedious or fixing lineart tedious.
I actually have only seen the new Tron, and only once, and didn't make the connection til you pointed it out! it IS absolutely gorgeous... now i really want to do the whole trio in Tron armor...

It's really freakin' hard to get your hands on the original Tron, but if you can you should watch it. At the very least see if you can get ahold of the special features. They did 90% of the effects in that movie *by hand* (meaning layering seven to twenty-odd layers of mats and film to get the glow fx) and the fifteen or so minutes of CGI footage was the first to be used in a film format *ever*. Syd Mead and Peter Lloyd did the majority of the design work. Kinda blows my mind. /fxgeek
