Description
Assignment 2 for Advanced Drawing for Animation.Assignment was to create a few anatomically believable mounts and riders. The more you created, the better.
I really could have gone so out of this world with mounts...its a really easy subject for me...but I decided to stick with doing concepts I could use for the story I'm working on. These were the best designs I came up with.
Based on multiple prehistoric and modern animals.
Watercolor on Illustration Board, 30 x 20 inches

Actually, if we're thinking of the same one, its supposed to be based off of Inostrancevia Alexandri (a species of Gorgonopsid)
...but now I totally want to go do an andrewsarchus one...those things are just too awesome to be ignored. Thanks!

My bad. I've had Andrewsarchus on my mind lately, so that was the first thing I thought of when I saw it. Also, it worked well with the alliteration...
I thought the tusks looked odd for Andrew anyways.

I liked the alliteration, relevant or not. And I totally know how that goes, I had a very long bout of Kaprosuchus on the brain. It ended in some very strange drawings showing up on the whiteboard hanging in my room in the middle of the night

Not at the time, but it is one of my favorite prehistoric related films, so it did help inspire quite a bit of this It is definitely to be blamed for the creodont/hyaenodon based one. Good eye!

I love all of these! I wish i could remember the names of the prehistoric creatures you used, i know i've seen them all before... -brain explodes- But I love the concepts! I've been struggling with the same project of coming up with mounts.. >.< It's a lot more difficult than i wish it was. lol But great job! Makes me really want to read this story!

Thanks! This project was awesome, but I didn't really get to see what anyone else turned in cause about 7 people didn't show up, and everyone else either dropped their stuff off and left, or were in another room
Oh well, i'll see them later.
I finished the script for part one, its just getting a bit of tweaking, but hopefully I'll be able to start working on pages soon
Thanks again

I think I know the guys... Let's see. Paraceratotherium (the giant), Creodont (the wolf-like mammal), Gorgonopsid (The big unususal carnivore), Griffin (Need I say more?), Rhino (of course). Were those ones right?

Good eye! Yup, these were inspired by those critters (or creatures of the same families: the gorgonopsian was more inspired by Inostrancevia than the actual gorgonopsid, for sizing reasons, but hey, same family, and they're practically identical ). I just tweaked a few things here and there (like size or volume) to make them suitable mounts, or, in the case of the Paraceratherium, make him a bit more agile and less heavy duty looking.
Then of course, griff and rhino Though I confess, I've never seen a real rhinoceros do that before...
Again, good eye! Only a few people have picked up on that

Awesome O.o You've got some skills dude...hmm...I'd go for either the lower middle dog-like thing or the one with all the red armor^^ Though I have to admit the idea of piercing someone on a horn from a Rhino seems pretty appealing too
...I'm dwelling of, the point is, awesome job
