Lesser Amazon Gryphon
Slightly larger than the Bob-Tailed Gryphon (seen here ) the Lesser Amazon Gryphon is not a wild born gryphon, but is rather considered a "Designer Hybrid" (like designer dogs or cats). The first Lesser Amazon was created by a Paragrypher (one who trains Gryphons, much like a falconer) who specialized in training Bob-Tailed Gryphons, Savannah Gryphon, and Serengeti Gryphon. A wealthy animal collector paid the breeder to develop a unique breed for him. The paragrypher agreed, and spent two years developing the Lesser Amazon. However, the vain collector found the colorful pelt revolting, and refused to pay the paragrypher. Rather than leave the result to fade, he developed it further, and sold it as a house pet to families.

Considered a family pet now, the Lesser Amazon makes a fabulous guard pet, and fiercely protects its home from invaders. However, they get along wonderfully with children, and are a favorite of elderly people, willing to lay about and be stroked. Being captively created and bred, this species is not much one for surviving in the wild, and any who have been separated from their families have either been impounded until they could be returned home or sent to a sanctuary, or have been found dead some time later.
Lesser Amazons come in two colors of plumage: Scarlet or Blue and Gold. Melanism is rare, but a popular and expensive variety is a Melanistic Scarlet Amazon. Melanistic Blue Golds are rarer to see, but are less coveted than the Scarlets.

Contrary to popular belief, this species is not descended from the Greater Amazon Gryphon, a fierce wild Gryphon rare to see and near impossible to train. Unfortunately, its actual lineage has been lost.
