Description
THIS IS THE FONT VERSION OF THE FULL ANCIENT HYLIAN ALPHABET:Now before you question how and where...yes I DID reinvent and fully create the missing letters. This is my "full" alphabet version which can be used with the Hylian Language. Call it, if you will, the Goddesses Hylian?
I did my best to make the new characters work well with the preexisting ones, and some are only slight alterations due to their relation to the root characters. There are 52 unique letters, but the basic A-Z can be used for English writing (the short i with one dot over it should be used for most English words).
I'm going to post up more information on how to use this, as well as my other Hylian alphabet in due time, but for now you can just refer to this really crummy hand written chart!
General Information
This is based on the Ancient Hylian from the Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword.
The chart for the game version is here: [link]
and the game accurate font can be downloaded here: [link]
This version has additional characters which are needed to work with my fan created Hylian Language, which uses characters which translate to basic roman as well as syllabary letters.
This version of Ancient Hylian can be used in the same way as my more "modern" Hylian.
I have a wallpaper helper for that version here: [link]
And the font for that version can be downloaded here: [link]
My Hylian Language used to be hosted at Hyrule Realm. As I haven't been able to get the site back up due to personal life issues sapping my time, I will eventually be putting the language back online on a new site dedicated solely to the language. In the meantime I plan on getting some information back up here on DA as I can in the near future.
If you have any questions about the language, please send me a note.
For those of you who remember Hyrule Realm, I'm so terribly sorry that I had to take it down! I haven't forgotten, and I will get the language back online for use, it's just a lot of work. I hope you can all understand, and I very much appreciate the continued support. โฅ
โข I am fully aware of the fact that some of these look similar to Japanese Katakana and Hiragana. Contrary to those of you who want to say they ARE Japanese however, none of these are identical to Japanese kana and the similarities are not intentional. Any further commentary on the similarities are not necessary. Thank you anyway.
Check out the font if you like this! ^_^

Hehe I'll get it done asap, but it likely won't be ready till mid-late next month due to plans I have before then... however, you could always get the game-accurate SS Ancient Hylian font if you don't have it yet. :3

^-^ Most of these look like Hirigana/Katakana. Was that your inspiration?

I just altered and added to the Ancient Hylian from Skyward Sword...some of the ones I believe you mean, weren't necessarily inspired by the Kana, but what felt right for the letters.

Really love it, but is it just me or is 'X' missing?

I the Hylian language there is no character for "x". like I said, this is language compatible, it's not supposed to necessarily going to work with all "foreign" words. So you can use it for English except for that.

It's lovely, I've been looking for something like this for awhile. I've found a few "full" alphabets such as this in different places, but they all lack a few letters, in my opinion. Yes, A-Z is what is most common and is used in the english language, but as a scandinavian, I'd love to see our letters ร
, ร and ร in alphabets like these. Arguably, there's other letters that other people want to have, like the german ร for example. So making a FULL alphabet would be quite a task.
In any case, this is looking great. I really hope it will be a font in the near future, and with numbers too. That would be awesome!

Sarinilli In reply to Autumnchild [2012-08-28 18:36:58 +0000 UTC]
Well, this is a full alphabet in the sense that it's the full Hylian alphabet- not a full representation for all roman based alphabets. :3
I see your point though, but those letters don't exist in Hylian. But I'm glad you like it! You could always alter base A-Z character for use as ร, ร etc etc by just adding the umlauts to them..for localized use with your own language, I don't see that it would hurt anything. ^_^

Nice, I always like seeing work like this. I am interested in foreign and ancient languages and how they are written (Both officially and unofficially; such as what would be on official signs and or monuments and also how some one would write it in an unofficial letter to a friend or loved one or just every day sort of thing.) and spoken. However, even though this really does not help with anything in real life, it is something that you can do as a fan and enjoy.
But what game and or time period is this suppose to be from? It does not remotely remind me of anything... at least not from OOT and TP...

Have you not played Skyward Sword yet? The basis for this is from the alphabet which was introduced in SS. It's supposed to be the original ancient written language. :3

LinkNZeldaForever In reply to Sarinilli [2012-08-28 16:19:16 +0000 UTC]
No I have not. And I have not kept up with it either... But yea... after the fact I actually went to your page and saw others and your journal and found it was from LoZ SS. My bad. Actually though, the Skyward Sword script is not the original written language, but I will say no more.
However, I do have a question... and I doubt this will spoil my game if and when I ever play it. How did we go from Egyptian Hieroglyphic type pictures in TP to actually hand written form for SS, unless as I mentioned, there is more than one form, the hand written one obviously being the much more easier form to use. However, were there hieroglyphic type ones in SS as well, so it matched with TP or no?

Sarinilli In reply to LinkNZeldaForever [2012-08-28 16:26:23 +0000 UTC]
Actually it is the original..however...just take for a moment all the timeline theories into consideration. ^^
This alphabet, this version, is my original written alphabet as far as my "fanverse" is concerned. :3
Since when did Twilight Princess have Hieroglyphic type? It had a full one-on-one Roman style alphabet that was highly highly stylized.

Well I only beat TP once and only got to that particular part once, but there are bird statues strewn across Hyrule and there is a super cannon under the village that Link finds along with that smart book guy. (Reminds me of Daniel Jackson from SG1 ) Anyway, inside the hidden cavern there are these pictures painted in Hieroglyphic form. I actually spent quite a while trying to study them for my own amusement. They had to be painted there for a reason. Not for the player to actual translate per say, but for showing the ancient way of writing or so I presumed of the Sky people. Like I said there are different ways of writing and even Egyptians had multiple forms, some of which are hand written, (I could not imagine writing a simple letter in pictures only...) so maybe SS had the hand written form and I am also assuming the Hieroglyphic form, unless Nintendo scrapped it for the easier version or forgot or maybe the Hieroglyphics came after the written form... in any case I would assume there would have been evidence of them...

Oh, I see. So you're referencing the Sky People from Twilight Princess of all things... not something which fits into my fanverse, I'm sorry to say. Cucco people?..please. What I have here and what I'll eventually write date back much further than any concept of chickens in the sky. *snorfles* As funny as it is...
๐: 0 โฉ: 1
LinkNZeldaForever In reply to Sarinilli [2012-08-28 17:27:10 +0000 UTC]
Yea... those chicken people... REALLY put me off... kind of like a WTF moment and or a Nintendo thing... not very attractive and down right creepy...
Anyway, I assumed that the Sky People were cursed and that is why they were like that. Obviously chicken people could do nothing on their own unless they had tremendous mental abilities and could do things just using their mind or had slaves or at least others doing the brunt of their work. But no, I just assumed the Sky People were cursed (And or hiding...) or at least those that survived anyway... After all, if Link can traverse their world so easily, (Obviously with the claw attachments.) it was originally built for people of some form or another. And I too am writing a LoZ SS story, but no chicken people are allowed...

Oh, even before Skyward Sword I figured that if a city actually existed in the sky, it would have been Hylians or Sheikah predecessors if anything. So if I had to work it into my fanverse? I guess a small island from the sky nation would have been left up there and like many things in Hyrulian history, fell into legend and was all but forgotten by the time the events of TP took place.

Since I refuse to buy into the "official" timeline, I tend to be rather opinionated about my view on the games..that's part of why I do say "fanverse", because what I see and how I put things together doesn't necessarily reflect canon. Just my take on things. ^^
