I saw someone with their pants so low that they actually fell off. True Story.
I also had to walk into a shop so that the dude wouldn't see the tears on my face from laughing so hard.

"yeah.. Oh! Oh. Sorry. We only have two." "...Now which one?" *leering*
"That large one over there."

Wait, how many genders does his species have?
I never quite figured out how trigender species would have evolved. bigender, monogender and hermaphrodite species, all totally plausible, trigender... the mind boggles.

3 biological sexes. Gender is a term that refers to how the individual views themselves in terms of masculinity or femininity. And thats a gradient. Essentially there are as many genders as there are people because everyone defines how and in what ways they feel they are masculine/feminine differently. I haven't decided how early on the mutation for three sexes began for them whether it was way back a little after the first multicellular organisms or much later when their species diverged from their predecessors'. Either way it was a mutation that ended up being helpful in controlling their numbers. The harsh environment they live in can't support an overwhelming population. Or couldn't pre-technology anyway.

Oh, I just use gender in place of sex for clarity in terms of sex as in the difference between male and female and sex as in the action of having sex.
Anyway: I see. I guess that could work. Generally species living in environments incapable of supporting large populations just have slower breeding rates or something like that, but I guess its a possibility. So do all three sexes contribute genetics or is one a catalyst like in most sci-fi tri-gender species? I assume there's an equivalent to female, as someone has to give birth or lay the eggs... or is it that both "male" and "female" contribute genetically but the third gender carries the offspring? If it's the latter then I'd imagine the third gender participant would have to be related to one of the others in order for it to be worth it investing effort in carrying and raising the offspring, otherwise there'd be no motivation...
Interesting thought anyway.

Sarspax In reply to Ross-Sanger [2011-01-23 23:11:25 +0000 UTC]
Yup. All three contribute. Because of that they number of viable offspring based on the chromosome triplets is very low. There is a carrier yes and they contribute genetic material as well.
There is no direct analogue for male and female on the Zenn homeworld. At all. The process and related organs/components are different. The only similarity at all is that stuff combines inside one of em and at a set period of time a baby pops out. To put it bluntly. Lol.
Their society is built upon cooperation because of all of the above. They would die out if they didn't. There's way too much working against them.

Does that mean their DNA is a triple helix?
I see... so no room for romance in Zenn society then.

Sarspax In reply to Ross-Sanger [2011-01-24 19:19:01 +0000 UTC]
Oh there is. There's just no room for jealousy. Mutual cooperation makes for lots of different sex groups. You have your baby making triad. You have your casual love making circle. And then you have your triad of love. x)
Yeah, triple helix. Or some such. I'm not sure if they are even DNA based. Could have something else. But for the sake of coolness it will probably just be a triple helix.

Ross-Sanger In reply to Sarspax [2011-01-24 20:51:45 +0000 UTC]
Interesting. Totally different social structure then, and probably totally different... mechanics.
I'll divert that train of thought.
The DNA or equivalent would have to be made of base triples instead of base pairs then... hmm, and have to bond in a totally different way to DNA on Earth... I'm getting way too into the sciency bit now I'd better stop.
Anyway, it's cool that you've thought as much into this as you have.

Roflmao. Yeah. Trick is to go just far enough to make it believable and not totally wacko.
Definitely different. I want to make their behavior far more alien than they appear. Their appearance will probably be adjusted a bit more before they appear in the animation though.

Ross-Sanger In reply to Sarspax [2011-01-24 22:07:50 +0000 UTC]
Indeed.
Ah, you're planning on animating them? I was expecting comics, I didn't realise you were working on an animation project.

Yeah. They are going to be in my halo animated series somewhere. I'm still in the scripting and design process right now.
