Description
I just finished replaying Breath of Fire II, probably one of my all-time favorite games. And with any fantastical blast from the past...art inspiration comes with it.And Katt was always one of my favorite characters (interestingly enough, NOT where I got my nickname from LOL)
I want to do a few more of these for some other characters, but we'll see... XD
The weird blue version behind her is when she's shamanized with the Devil Shaman
You can see me CG it here: [link]
Oh yeah..and... I'm alive?

Katt's most definitely an adorable and awesome one, BoF2 is a great game, so much better than the first. I have the original cartridges of each! But this drawing is wonderful, I love it!

And thank you so much ^^

They were more interesting, I wasn't too fond of the first one's. In fact I think the only one I liked in it was Bo. You're very welcome!

Agreedd. The underwater world was very cool at the time it came out, but still XD I just wish the ones that came after BF2 had been as good. BF4 was okay, but I couldn't even make myself finish BF5 /:

XDD YES. It had virtually nothing to do with BoF other than names. If it had been marketed as its own title/game instead of a BoF game, it might have done alright.

Exactly. Sometimes I wonder what it'd be like if they remade the first two...

Either they'd be good remakes.. or they'd most likely turn out to be bad ones. I worry these days when they do remakes now.. I would love a remake of The Elder Scrolls 1 and 2, especially 2, but like I said, at this point I'd worry if they would be unsatisfactory or completely ruin it XD

ahh yeah. I haven't had too many bad experiences with remakes. Been playing some of the old Dragon Quest games on DS lately. A few confusing alterations, but still the game I love~
And then there's that Playstation version of Chrono Trigger that didn't change anything other than add some fun cut scenes. XD That was fun too.

I really like those remakes, they're pretty good! Considering we never got any offical versions of the original games (though still obstainable via translated ROM or reproduction carts) it's good we're able to play and own some form of them.
I just beat that one a week or so ago actually! The cut scenes were awesome <3

Yeah, I still have the original SNES copy, even though I don't have a working SNES, and have each and every game.
BOF and BOFII (My favorite ^_^) for Gameboy Advanced, BOFIII and BOFIV for Playstation and BOFDQ for the PS2.
I hope Dragon Quarter isn't the last we see of the series ^_^

Ahh I still have my SNES and the games with it. I'm just hesitant to use it at all. XD I'd be crushed if I broke it.
I really would love to see another for the series. Even a remake of one of the first two would be amazing. Dragon Quarter kind of disappointed me so it'd be nice to see another..

It was okay.
But that's all it was.
How were the characters? Okay. How were the graphics? Okay. The music? Okay. The storyline? It was okay.
The game just bowls you over with its adequacy X_X

Hahaa my thoughts exactly.
It's almost painfully average. Which just doesn't cut it when it comes to a series like that.

Exactlyy. I think if it had actually been called anything else, I might have liked it more ha. Nina's character made me die inside a little. My favorite part about the first few was that she had real wings and the evolution from them flying to not being able to...
I think if they made another one, it'd be interesting if they actually went back before all the other games. (since it kind of seemed like they were trying to progress in the timeline with each game..)

Zucca-Xerfantes In reply to SasamiInu [2010-01-23 23:10:56 +0000 UTC]
Well yeah. The problem was it... had very little to do with Breath of Fire.
Only one or two established BOF races, a few tiny aspects that they were able to throw in there seemingly at the last moment to try to connect the games together or give some relevance to the name 'Breath of Fire'. The influence of dragons, the sock puppet girl giving out advice from BOF4, the faeries from BOF3 and 4 and of course the two recurring names. But those things aside, *nothing*.
That's why I think it would have made a much better game if it hadn't carried the seal of Breath of Fire.
To be fair, the music was actually pretty good and always set the right mood and atmosphere. A+ on that aspect.
Not so much in the relevancy department X_X
If there is another BOF game in the future, (And since Gameboy Advanced and DS have re-releases of the first two games) I think that interest in the series is still high enough that a sixth release may not be as unobtainable as previously worried.
I'd say the next release may have a semi-futuristic setting and will involve a wider cast of characters.
Write Capcom letters! Trust me, they'll listen.

Ahh took the words right out of my mouth. XD
A new game would be amazing. Especially if you trace back and think of where the game started and how it evolved on itself in the next couple games. (Granted by BOF4 they sort of abandoned that idea to try some different stuff instead)
All I would want from a new one, would of course be the classic characters, (including Bleu, because it just doesn't seem right to try and exclude her), actual dragon powers with transformations, and the nice traveling RPG system where you go all over the world and..I'd actually like to fly too. (that's pretty much bare bones though, since it's 6am and I'm probably not thinking properly)
Gosh I still remember in the second game where you could find that little random island south of everything else and there was a little house with the thief and Bo from the first game. Even though you couldn't actually do anything with them (like some kind of side quest thing) I was still overjoyed to see references of the previous game. And for the majority of BOF games, that seemed to be something they always did. (Like with Bleu always 'recognizing' the hero) (or how in the second game, when Nina takes the trial to try and become a bird, the final guardian thing is in fact her decendent, Nina from BOF1)

Yeah...
For a sixth game, I would put in references to the first four since the fifth is what I call BOFINO (Breath of Fire In Name Only).
I would have it take place in the classic world, but in a psuedo-futuristic setting. Windia would be the capitol of the free nations, the Empire would have eventually joined them after their collapse and the oceans of mud would eventually begin to break down, giving way to the discovery of new continents. One of them, a xenophobic continent of mages, declared war on the explorers' nation to pry at their magic secrets.
Thus, the story begins in Windia in which a young corporal in the Windian army discovers he has a unique heritage after a battle in which he was injured so gravely, his life was thought to be forfeit. Yet he recovered and his superiors realize that it's been precisely 300 years since the last great events in history in which the Fou Empire fell at the hands of a dragon named Ryu, 600 since the resurrected goddess Myria was annihilated by a dragon named Ryu, 900 years since Myria's spawn, Evans, was defeated by a dragon named Ryu and 1200 years since a dragon named Ryu stopped the dragon civil war.
His superiors realize that history is preparing to repeat itself, but they've no clue as to why the Destined Child has popped up again since, apart from the war which isn't unwinnable, there's no major crisis in the world. Princess Nina, during the council to discuss Corporal Ryu, informs them that she believes the best course of action is to give him a mission involving domestic peacekeeping to observe him, and that she'll go along as an observer.
Along the way, they'll meet a Woren-descended woman whose abilities are drawn upon by a combination of pistols and spirit summoning, a Forest clansman sniper, a shrewd Highlander merchant with a huge variety of contacts in the world, a giant horse man who fights with his fists, but wears gauntlets with machine guns attached and lastly, a shapeshifting eye goo.
What'cha think?

...I think I just fell in love with a game that needs to exist XDD
But alas, you forgot to mention they simply must come across a mysterious serpent sorceress. One last awakening of sorts. (I know in the..fourth I believe? she lost her body or something ridiculous like that, but it didn't set right with me, so in my history of BOF, that never happened.)
Ah, it's kind of funny, because just this past fall I was musing over the idea of making a BOF movie (after replaying the second game) and all the directions and possibilities there could be if done right. Granted it's always hard to make movies based off anything like that (I stand by the fact that the first 'Final Fantasy' movie was a complete failure to all I hold dear in that series.) (Advent Children pleased me enough however.) But it's still nice to think about...

I'm actually writing a novel loosely based off BOF2.
And thanks for the comment there ^_^
As for the loss of her body, I think she'd have found it again. Remember that she was forcibly summoned to act as a god, except that she was separated from her body and it was lost elsewhere while her essence became trapped in Ershin.
I'm willing to buy that since I know she's capable of finding her body again.
Anything else you'd add to that which I've laid out so far?
Heck, you and I might collaborate and write something up ^_^

Ha a novel, huh? That would be really interestiinng.
Yeahh, that works for me. It just doesn't seem like Bleu to not go back to her original body and coil up and take another couple hundred-year-long nap.
Hmm, can't think of anything much to add at the moment. But I love to see this develop more. XD And having plenty of random species is of course a must. Like Rand's village of armadillos? (I used to think he was a horse, but apparently not) Just as a stop along the way or something. Not necessarily a big plot device, but a good way to remind others that they aren't the only ones who remember what BOF was all about.

Zucca-Xerfantes In reply to SasamiInu [2010-01-30 02:34:15 +0000 UTC]
Yeah. Maybe even a few traditional monster races of BOF becoming more civilized after all this time. Ogres, Beaks, and so on.
Know what I mean? And of course the party member who's a shapeshifting eye goo.
In fact, if you'd like to collaborate on some sort of writing project, perhaps there might be something to it. In fact...
Yeah! Let's do it, by golly!
It's clear you and I both have intimate knowledge of the series, so I think a creative collaboration might be both fun and creatively stimulating ^_^
What'cha say?

SasamiInu In reply to Zucca-Xerfantes [2010-01-30 19:09:38 +0000 UTC]
Ha! A village of beaks, that would be priceless. I wonder if they'd have evolved to have wings...
Ohhh and they simply must be allowed to go to the underwater world again. That's one thing I did seriously miss from the first game. That was so much fun, and something pretty unique for its time. (Even now it doesn't happen often in long RPGs) (Mario doesn't count.)
XD Well I'd be happy to help with something like that! I could help design the characters too. College keeps me pretty busy, but it's not a bad idea for a long-term project if I have enough time.

Right on! She's like one of my most favorite game characters of all time. BoF 2 was a game that proves good graphics and voice acting doesn't make a game awesome. I think it was one of the games that got me into the whole Genre.
Beside the point, good picture
