Description
It was a chilly morning that greeted the three horses and their riders as they packed up and began to head home. The hunt had been a successful one, a nuisance dragon had been slain and no one had been injured. All in all, the group was cheerful. As the horses carried their riders back to camp, Asmodeus - a graying bay stallion - was smirking to himself. This caught the attention on of the brightly peafowled appaloosa named Aeglos, who then posed a question.
"Just what are you so happy about over there, Snake?" He hedged, opting to use the horse's nickname, but not with any malice. In return, Asmodeus remarked proudly as he opened his mouth and revealed a small, glittering jewel he was carrying, "I snagged a piece of that dragon's hoard. HA!"
The horse's conversation brought the attention of Horus upon them, their somewhat self-appointed leader. "You what? The riders get stuff like that, Asmodeus, you know that. What use is something like that to YOU anyway?" Horus rolled his eyes and Aeglos just snickered lowly as he piped in, "Mayhaps Asmodeus is a dragon and he does not yet know it? Still, I think he should drop it. Carrying around pretty things like that makes you sort of a beacon for dragons...."
Amsodeus just huffed and flicked his ears as he trotted along, "bah, they could not catch me anyway. This is mine now and there is no way a dragon is taking it."
The three let the matter drop for most of the day as they made their way through fields and mountains, pausing for a second so the riders could reorient themselves by some large boulders. Asmodeus took the opportunity to just grin at Aeglos who rolled his blue eyes again and just chuckled, saying, "really, Snake, you do not have to show me it all the t-"
The horse was interrupted by a deafening roar and a thud as a massive dragon who had been tailing them from above, lured by the sweet scent of the treasure, swooped down and landed by the boulders.
"BY MY HOOVES, SNAKE, WHAT DID I TELL YOU??" Aeglos startled and reared as Amsodeus jumped as well, offsettling his rider somewhat.
Horus knew it was not time to panic, he turned and bolted, beginning to turn to his left, "Not now, friends, courage! Follow and make haste, if we but make it to the trees, the dragon shall not be able to follow us!"
Upon Horus' command, the horses nodded and galloped on with the dragon in hot pursuit.
