Description
The teleporter landed him into what had become familiar territory over the last few weeks. The sound of a waterfall, heard in the distance, welcomed him amidst the tropical forest, and bug and animal noises contributed their part to the island ambiance as well. He sighed, taking a moment to absorb the calming atmosphere. It tried to goad him into forgetting the heavy burden on his shoulders, and for that moment, he gave in, and closed his eyes. Even the ground under his feet, flowing with the grounding energy of the Master Emerald, soothed the storm of chaos energy inside him. It was so peaceful.. it felt so right.. that RK almost wished he could stay on Angel Island forever.

The guardian would never agree to such a thing, however, and RK's obligations wouldn't permit it either. He opened his eyes, and paced on through the jungle. He felt a little bad.. he had been disappearing all day, almost every day, before MS2 even woke up, and he would then come back 'home' usually after she had gone to sleep. Eventually, he reached the clearing where Knuckles's home was nestled. The moons were bright, and cast a misty glow onto the space below. To his surprise, the little blue hedgehog of his musing herself was sitting on the porch of the cabin with her back against a pole, and her head tilted to the side. As RK got closer, he realized she was asleep.

He stopped over her and just looked down at her form for a while. His internal clock told him it was around 3 AM, and he had definitely expected her to be in bed already.

He crouched down by MS2 and spoke softly. “Two.”

She only shifted slightly.

“Two,” he repeated, in the same tone. “What are you doing out here?”

He got no response, and after a moment of deliberation, he shook his head, scooped her up in his arms and headed inside.

She moved again, curling up and pressing her head against his chest. Her arms in fetal position, she lightly gripped onto his shirt.

“I waited,” she murmered, without opening her eyes. “I missed you.”

She missed him? After all their fighting? After all her supposed resentment and how much he allegedly drove her crazy? … He felt the corner of one side of his mouth being pulled upwards. He relinquished a smile.

“Tomorrow I'll show you where I've been, okay?”

She mirrored the smile, and quietly she responded. “I'd like that...”
