Description
Well, I'll be starting school on Monday and I'm not sure how much time I'm going to have for myself to draw. Last night I was doodling and decided to make this girl into a geisha. I think they are so elegantly beautiful and I've always wanted to draw one, so I did. It'll probably be awhile before I can draw anything for myself, so I decided to do this. I hope you guys like her because I sure doRelated content

nice coloring and design.
I like how you took a woman of art that has a very specific style of hikizuri and shimada mage hair, and westernized it making it your own.
Im in deep fascination with the Geiko and, Maiko of Kyoto.

I love this piece! The colours, the contrast, the hair, the fans, the Kanzashi... Everything is stunning. The woman looks a lot like Hatsumomo from Memoirs.
I've featured your work here: [link]

I know I already commented on this one, but it's a good example of what I was talking about in a more recent deviation. You capture the dimension of her clothing here so beautifully. Even without having texture available to you, since silk from this distance typically has the illusion of you know "silky smooth" you use light and shade very very well here to make it have a flowing quality so she nearly looks like she is wearing a robe of something that flows like water. I really particularly like this piece.

Yeah, painting silk texture and regular clothing textures are a lot different from each other...lol Anyway, thank you.

EXTREMELY beautiful, very elegant, I love her hairstyle, it looks very Geisha.
My only comment is if you're were trying to be uber tradtional, she would have to have her hair all up.
But that's a mild thing, and up to the artist the atmosphere aimed at.
BTW, if you're intrested in Geishas, there is a book called simply Geisha by a woman named Liza Darby. It's REALLY good.

Thank you very much ^^
Well, in Memoirs of a Geisha, Sayuri's dancing scene she wore her hair like that and that's where that inspiration came from. I wasn't really trying to be uber traditional but more to take some artistic liberty with it. Anyway, thank you! ^^

I always thought Japanese women held such elegance and unique style! You've captured it beautifully in this!! Just lovely!! I swear, if I could, I'd denounce my heritage and become Japanese! You continue to amaze me, yet again!

Ah yes, Geishas are extrodinary women!! The movie "Memoirs of a Geisha" is among my favorites!!

This is gorgeous. I love the patterns you used both in foreground and background. The details are very nice, and I don't see anything 'sqwunch' in about it. The proportions are very nice for the style. You should make this available for print purchasing.
And good luck with school starting (tomorrow?)
