Holy crap! My first drawing of 2014! lol And I wanted to be of my brand new Rocky Mountain mare that I just officially became the true and full owner of, Lovely Lady Velvet! I just had to draw her lol. I really wanted to share her with you guys and I did everything I could to capture her unique silvery brown coat color as well as her highlighted mane and tail that's almost a flaxen when she's clean and the sun is shining on her! We're having some pretty crazy snowy/wintery weather here and so I wanted to capture the winter feeling in Velvet's essence. She LOVES the snow. She's only 6 years old and she has a blast playing in the big, deep snow drifts, bucking, kicking, galloping through them. She's a beautiful, playful girl and she and I have formed such a deep bond and strong connection in a very short period of time. So much so that everyone says she chose me and you know what? I believe it! Every day she greets me in the pasture at a full gallop with a squealy whinny and as soon as she approaches me, she shoves her huge Rocky Mountain head into my chest and stomach and closes her eyes. She has the most unique scent to her. A mixture of horse and cinnamon. Idk how to explain it, but I love this girl to pieces. I'd bottle her scent if I could! Anyway, this is a drawing of her in all her glory! I hope you guys enjoy it and I hope everyone had a lovely and Happy New Year!

Oh yes. The snow is insane here right now and I felt the setting was just right! Lol! But yes, it does. She LOVES the snow. She looks like a happy child playing and bounding through it and it flies up in the air when she gallops through it. It's a beautiful image. I need to get a video of her doing it if I can get to gallop.

Well that's great that she loves the snow if you're getting so much of it

Yes, for sure, but I'm exhausted by it. The temps have dropped so dangerously low that if you're outside for more than 5 minutes with any exposed skin, your liable to get frostbite.

Oh goodness! I mean, we complain about the cold here in the UK a lot (because we like to complain about the weather in general...) but we never get it that bad.
And I'm sorry to hear the winter affects you that way. I've heard of that before, and I'm sure it's not easy at all. Hoping you guys at least get some brighter weather soon!

OMG Consider yourself lucky you weren't here during what they were calling a "polar vortex" as we were literally getting -50 degree windchills here (and that's in Farenheight, not sure what that would be in Celsius) but yeah... I hate it. It's finally starting to get a little warmer. We're up to 27 degrees F here today, and it's funny but it feels like a heatwave and not quite as cold haha.Ā
Yeah... it's not fun at all. Hubby has been looking into purchasing me a sunlamp. They say it really helps people with SAD. I'm hoping this will work and help me and feel a little better. I miss my horses and being outside more than anything. I'm an outdoors girl. I NEED to be outside doing something, especially with my horses and with weather like this it's just not possible! There's about 14 inches of snow on the ground outside. The roads are still pretty bad from our snowstorm too... it's just really awful and sad. Kids had a whole other entire week off school due to the weather. Poor Logan is getting restless and ready to go back to school already! We're just totally over it!

Thank you so much! Her forelock sometimes falls to the side of her head, but it's sooo long that most of the time it's splayed out across her forehead and down the sides of her face. I'm always brushing it out of her eyes.

She is such a beautiful horse and you're so lucky to have her! She sounds as if she has a real character. How big/tall is she?

Oh thank you!! She is! I'd love to share some photos with you of her if that's alright? She is an amazing horse! She's 15.2 hands and she has the most amazing personality on her. It's awesome and yes, she definitely has character! She's also a cuddler! Lol She loves attention. She's not like a lot of mares that are bitchy and moody. She's not "mare-ish" at all! She's very affectionate and sweet. She's literally one of my dream horses. I do feel very lucky to have her!
