i don't really ship elsa much with anyone, but with pitch, i kinda like.

Question: Why do people like this couple..?

Well, think of it like this. Why do people like any couple? I mean Jack Frost is actually 14 years old based on the book where he was originally came from and Elsa is 21 in the movie. People still pair them up. Not only does rule 34 count( where it means that every and any pairing exist), but there is not such thing as a impossible couple. There will be people who will say 'I can't see them together' for every pairing and that is fine, but it does not make it true. All pairings can work with development and dialogue. Pitch used to be a hero but was turned evil against his will.
In the movie it did not show it but the movie comes from the book by William Joyce. He had a daughter and wife and fought against the fearlings and dream pirates. They knew they could not kill him so they tricked him away from his home to killed his family. The daughter snuck out to go play and the mother took a fake doll to pretend it was her daughter to jump out the window; she died. Pitch came back with his men and rounded up the pirates demanding for his family. They told him they were dead and he was so horrified he beheaded them. The rest he locked up in a prison to guard for the rest of his life, however, they one day tricked him. When he was at his lowest they imitated his daughter's voice and he opened the door. They took his body and turned him into the nightmare king.
For me I like to imagine that Elsa looks like the wife of Pitch (his daugher's name is Emily Jane but the fans call her Seraphina).
For others it is a dark romance.Β A tragic and sometimes one sided romance. Think of something like phantom of the opera. The darkΒ phantom in love with the innocent young woman. Dark, possessive, tragic. Pitch is hated for having to survive off of other people's fears. Think people who are turned into vampires. They have no choice but to drink the blood of humans, maybe animals does not work. Then there are their families who are human. They cannot be near them anymore without hurting them. Fear is good. Without fear who make me stop killing out of revenge. Have you ever met a person who offered something and there was this strange feeling of distrust? That is fear. It could stop you from blindly trusting someone that could be evil.
Children are afraid of strangers, so if a stranger comes up to them they would be so scared and run away. They would not follow them. They would not go in their van for candy. Then there is fear for the enemy. Murders who can have nightmares of all the crimes that they have done. They could be so terrified of their actions that they regret and turn themselves in to the police. It had happened before. If people are not afraid, then they are not afraid to kill or die for anything. People kill for the stupidest of reasons. One man killed three people over an xbox. There are people who kill because they were not afraid of dying or getting caught. They were not afraid of anything.
There are a lot of reasons people like PitchxElsa. Elsa could fill the lonely dark void for Pitch since he is hated so much. Pitch could use her fear or realize the good his fear can do for others. It all depends on the individual who likes this pairing.
There is no such thing as a pairing that cannot work. That is what a relationship and development is all about.

psst jsyk Jack in RotG is actually 17 (or 18??) according to Dreamworks. Different than the book version.

True, but the creator of Jack Frost stated that is he 14 in the books. They made him older to fit the voice actor better. It would be like any other movie derived from a book, things adapt for the movies, but cannon is usually from the original source.

RotG canon and book canon are separate though because they're extremely different things. It took the books as a source of inspiration of adaptation but they are completely different things that you can't actually mix on any narrative level. :o

But it is also a viewers perspective of what they accept to be overall canon. So either way, I claim the canon by the book of Jack's age being 14.

I am not arguing about ships. I am just saying that the movie has been altered and not everyone accepts the movie as cannon. It is personal opinion.
