I really like this portrait - it has such great character and class, and the subject intrigues me. The Neanderthal were a fine and elegant people in their time - many forms of Neanderthal artwork and fine crafts have been found in archaeological sites, and it is clear that they cared for their sick and elderly with great compassion. If there were still full Neanderthal populations alive today, they would likely be just as diverse as Homo sapiens.

Well, some say that the Neanderthals were able to develop some kind of primitive culture, that perhaps those times was very sophisticated.
on the other hand there is genetic evidence that they were mixed with Homo sapiens so true that even some of them live in us.

so, there are some theories who say, that some homo sapiens sapiens, could reproducirce with neanderthals , so perhaps some modern humans would have Neanderthal genetic traits, but I also think it would be great to continue living.

I had an anthropology instructor once fail my essay because i argued that neanderthals had culture. He just strait said "they didn't have culture" and that was the end of that. -.-

Well, I strongly agree with you. the fact that had developed tools and other characteristics shows that even had a culture that was archaic. I think one of the things that did not allow further development of this species was cultural: their phonatory apparatus difficult spoken language, so that probably would not have had a spoken language, but in fact there is great controversy about whether neandethales culture had or not, I think that if they had

They practiced ritualistic burials, sometimes involving bear skulls. That shows culture to me! But my instructor? Nah. >.> Burns my ass when anthro instructors are a good 50 years behind in their knowledge.

well, actually, we agree on that, they they had some kind of culture, and the practices that they had is evidence that ... the point is that not everyone accept it.
