Description
“With some help from the spirits, we brought Raven down the mountain to the castle. Not knowing what else to do, we got her cleaned up, and put her to bed to rest.““She didn’t wake up for two whole days. Elsa wanted to stay with her, but she needed to get back to the forest and let them know what’d happened.”
“On the third day, I went in to check on her, and she was sitting up finally, so we sat by the fire to talk.”
...
Anna walks into the room, knocking lightly on the door. “Hey there sleepyhead.. You’ve been out for two days. We were getting worried about you.”
She walks in and sits on a sofa in the room, beside the bed. “How are you? Feeling any better? I figured you’d be hungry if you woke up, so they’re bringing some breakfast.”
Raven slowly gets up and sits beside her. “A little.. I guess.”
Anna smiles at her. “There’s no rush.”
Raven looks at Anna’s belly. “May I touch?”
Anna nods. “Sure, go ahead. I’m about ready for this one to come out already hehe.. But I still have some time.”
Raven gently rubs Anna’s pregnant belly. “She’s doing well. She’s strong.” Raven finally smiles a bit.
Anna rubs her own belly. “You can tell? And you said she? It’s a girl?”
Raven nods. “I can see people’s spirits when I concentrate on them. Hers is very bright. You’ve done a good job so far.”
“Thank you. It’s not easy, but you’d think I was a glass egg when my husband Kristoff is around, so I can’t take all the credit hehe.. but don’t tell him I said that.”
Raven laughs a little. “Okay. Um.. I don’t remember your name.. sorry.”
“That’s because you fell asleep before we were introduced. I’m Anna. This is the kingdom of Arendelle, and I’m the queen.”
Raven looks surprised. “The queen? Sorry if I’ve been rude.”
Anna shakes her head. “Please don’t get formal on me. Honestly the only time I care about ceremony is during official functions with dignitaries.”
“Though I do have to ask, why are you here? What happened? And.. what’s going to happen to Elsa, my sister?”
Raven’s face darkens again, and she looks down at the floor, and the fireplace.
“You don’t have to talk about it right now if you don’t want to..”
Raven shakes her head. “No, it’s fine.. I just.. thought I’d be dead by now.”
She takes a deep breath, calming herself. “I’m not from Earth.. at least, not from THIS Earth.. The one I’m from.. it’s gone.”
Anna rubs her arm. “You mean you can’t get back to it?”
Raven shakes her head, then looks at Anna with a truly haunted expression in her eyes. “I mean.. it’s gone. Ragnarok happened on our world. It wasn’t the first time.. I think it was the second.”
Anna frowns, scared by the look. “I’ve read a lot about the old Norse myths.. but you’re saying it happened? I thought.. you know, after it happens, things start over.”
Raven nods, sadly. “Yes. That’s right.”
She recites a few verses, from what sounds like a poem:
“Middle Earth, Old Midgard we wish the tree will burst into leaf
Will someday your balance reach an end and you'll start to fade
Mannaheim, old Midgard all your walls start to tumble down
May the tree be reborn from the ash it will grow again”
“But that.. it can’t happen. You see, the gods.. the Norse gods, kin of Odin, from my world.. they abandoned us.”
Ravens voice wavers. “When it came time for the final battle, with all the enemies of Asgard assembled to attack.. they never came. A messenger said that they’d sealed themselves away in Freya’s garden, Fólkvangr, so that they could return once the enemy had sated themselves by slaughtering us..”
Her voice grows more angry with every word, but she sees how she’s frightening Anna and so she calms herself. “I’m sorry..”
Anna shakes her head and gently holds Raven’s hand. “No, I’m sorry you had to go through that.”
Raven calms a bit more at Anna’s touch. “Well.. It wasn’t enough for them. My.. my love, Azure.. who was also the captain of my trident.. she managed to get us to the Water Mirror, which we would try to use to go somewhere.. anywhere.. to escape when it became clear that the battle was hopeless. They overturned the tree, as expected.. so none of us could incarnate again should we be killed. But not even that was enough..”
Raven looks up at the cieling. “Their mages formed a circle and chanted.. they pulled the moon from the sky, and as the enemy was preparing to leave to their own new world.. the moon.. it slammed into Midgard.. the Earth.. It was so hard that the surface shattered. So there will be no growth from those ashes..”
She is quiet for a while, and so is Anna. She’d seen dark before.. but not like that.
“We.. my trident, was formed of Azure Sky, my captain.. Dawn Sky, the first one I’d ever taken as an Einherjar, and myself, Midnight Sky. We lept into the Water Mirror along with Aerith, an Einherjar I’d found from another world who could read the lines of life that flow through the Infinite Forest, hoping to find a new tree. Another of my Einherjar, Ishtar, stayed behind. She said that she would make sure those responsible paid with their souls.”
“When I awakened.. I was here, alone.. and without a link to this world or the tree, I was fading away to nothing. That’s when you found me.”
“And you can’t find them?” Anna says, having to choke back her own tears.
“No..” Raven shakes her head. “I should be able to find Ljos.. Dawn Sky.., Aerith and Ishtar. They’re my Einherjar. But I don’t have the power. Elsa is sustaining my life, but if I use any of my abilities, they’ll draw from her. Your sister is incredibly strong in magic but even she has limits and I don’t want to hurt her.” She looks very sad again. “Azure.. she was my superior.. she’s the one that found me when I was about to die, and made sure I died a virgin so I could become a Valkyrie like her. But that means I have no connection to look for her.”
“Thank you for that.” Anna says. “Watching out for Elsa, I mean.. So what will you do now?”
“My “next right thing?” Raven says, smiling a little at Anna, who squeezes her hand. “Yeah.”
“I have to find a connection to this world’s Yggdrisil and claim this world’s tree as my own before I can do anything. Luckily, we must be near one or the Mirror wouldn’t have dropped me here. Probably somewhere in those ruins.”
(Poem consists of lyrics from “Midgard” by Therion)

I won't lie, when I saw "Infinite Forest" I immediately thought of the one in Destiny. But knowing the pool of references you draw from, I assume that's not the one you're thinking of?

It’s a very similar concept, so who knows lol. They’re both speaking of a representation of multiple realities in Quantum time, though The Asgardian version isn’t so much about time, but dimension.
Basically speaking, every planet has a Tree of Life, with each possible reality comprising a branch of this tree. So when the universe is viewed as a whole, each world’s tree is part of “an infinite forest”.

I see! But where would the Tree would be rooted? A reality at random, or the one viewed as a sort of "baseline"?

It would be “rooted” at the first moment that the first version of a given planet began to exist as a planet.
In “reality”, the tree is more of a way to explain the Multiple Universe theory than a plant.
Like when you wake up, do you brush your teeth that day, or don’t you? You actually do both; each on a different branch.
The tree shown in a later image is more of a representation of the health of the planet than a plant to itself.
