Now I know what you're thinking: Why is he not glowing different shades of green from radiation?
Furthermore, why can't you hear any catching and swinging tunes from the 50's?
Short answer: This is a pre-war poster.
Long answer: Pre-war posters can't play music you dolt.
(That's the most energy I can muster right now.
I do not have the energy or motivation to draw or do anything at this moment in time.)

Well, you said you would try your hand at backgrounds, but I didn't expect it to be THIS soon. I guess your commissioner really wanted to test the boundaries of your artistic skill...
And your efforts certainly don't disappoint.
The time and effort on the clock certainly shows; I can't possibly imagine how you made the rusty iron texture look so nice. The lighting gives the curls of filigree and the spheres so much depth. You even put the cuts into the clock where the pieces are welded together! That's some detail!
