Barely.. he knocked his head in the chute, accidents happen. You may be mistaking his paint coloring (medicine hat) for blood.

I photograph rodeo as well for my art ....I think alot of us have shots where we wish we got that defiant part of the pic that goes beyond the veiwfinder! Part of what make rodeo shots so unique...glad you got him in focus!

Hello, Saudimack.
I was wondering if I could, by any chance, use this amazing photo as a reference? I will be sure to credit you in the artist's comments, and on the picture itself if I use it off of DA.

Just as long as they are not for resale, then yes, please credit. I'd love to see them.

I think its ironic...
Bucking horses have poor hoove condition, get battered and scared...

And yet the other half of horses, the show horses, barrel racers, ect, seem so loved and respected.

But you can treat the bucking horses like shit.

[they say they love all their horses, hah.]

I cant see going to a rodeo where a horse is allowed to work like that.

By the way...

I dont have a thing against rodeos, most of them are great, I just disagree with letting rodeos that treat animals like in said picture, go on.

Its just...
My philosophy...
I'd rather go to a place where the animals are treated with respect.

-

Anywho, I still have to say, nice shot I love the fact that its just the horse and its so detailed. You can see the chips in the hoove and strain on the animals part.

Great work.

-

[trust me I dont claim to know how every rodeo works but I've been in enough where the animals were treated fairly.]

Just a quick question - how would you go about trimming a green, un-imprinted, full grown horse?
Think about it.

Smile-Its-Sinister In reply to saudimack [2009-11-15 07:27:48 +0000 UTC]

Train them in four feet of snow.
Using some common sense, and kindess.

I really am sorry for provoking you. I just /like I said/ think, even if both ways ARE EFFECTIVE-
one way is kinder than the other. One causes a lot less pain and anger.

Thanks for at least being civil.

You're not provoking me, I am just asking you a simple question as to how you would go about doing it.

Having horses chip their hooves down is not necessarily bad. Hell, a lot of actual horse owners do it. Thats how they had their hooves trimmed in the wild. And thats how range horses are kept.

And going back to your original reply, bucking horses are not treated like shit. They are treated like an untamed animal. Horses are large animals, and when nervous or spooked, can hurt someone and/or themselves.

You have a lot to learn about the sport. I will be more than welcomed to enlighten just so you can understand a little better, instead of making quick assumptions.

Thanks.

thats a great shot! and in my experience, you can only focus so fast, esp. at the high speed rodeo events!

You should! However I will say read up on it a bit and kinda learn about the sport so you dont get the wrong impression about it.
