Description
The full light of the White Lady overshadowed that cast by the Blue Child. As it shone down on the coastal garrison, the senior Sentinel watched the small child with a mixture of worry, affection, and most of all, maternal love."Kiala? May I come in?" Her voice is as calm as she can make it. Given what she knew she must say to her only daughter, that was little and less. The girl nodded, and looked back to the woman she called 'Mama with an expression of curiosity. She sensed her mother's trepidation, and it worried her slightly. The elder woman was dressed for war, and her child saw it.
"How come you're in your armor, Min'da..?" The woman gave a sad smile. "Because I need to go and fight, my daughter.."
"But why..? Why not Auntie Sav?"
The elder woman knelt before her child, and reached to touch her cheek. "Because it is my duty, young one.. I gave my word that I would defend our lands. I cannot go back on my word, though it pains me to leave you here."
The girl screwed up her face, her eyes, glowing silver, welling up. "I know you're too young to understand my duty.. but know that I will be back with you, as soon as I am able. I will not abandon you, nor will I allow myself to be parted from you for longer than I must." She leaned over, to give the child a gentle kiss on the forehead. "I love you, Kiala. And that is why I am going: So that one day, I will not have to leave you ever again."
She knew it would not be enough for the girl. "I will come back, Kiala." She pulled the sniffling girl into a maternal embrace, and felt the small arms encircling her back.
"I don't want you to go, Min'da.." "I don't want to go, small one..." She gently released the girl, and slowly, reluctantly, took her daughter's arms off. She stood as steadily as she could, smiling warmly.
"Auntie Ilaera will look after you while I am gone.. And so will everyone else.. Just like it is now. Be strong for me, my daughter..." With one sad tousle of the girl's hair, the newly-promoted Commander of the Windsong Sentinels slipped from her daughter's room, and leapt from the balcony onto her drake's back.
"To war, Tarkus!"

This is the original of I liked this version much better because I felt the green hair stuck out like a sore thumb, but Kiala has green hair so I obliged her creator and added the green hair. I still wanted to post this version though, for my gallery.
