Description
I've seen about a thousand of these pop up today so I did one too. Not thrilled with it because I had to use Paint, but I did my best. Wanted to include influences on writing, photography & art. Feel like I missed a lot of things...STEPHEN KING - Favorite author EVER. I don't think I need to convince the world of his awesomeness at this point.
FIREFLY - I aspire to the kind of originality, dialogue & character this show pulled off so easily. And I ♥ me some Jayne.
MUSICS - A lot of punk, classic rock and Irish stuff, but at least a little bit of everything. Less Than Jake, Dropkick Murphys, Flogging Molly, The Doors, Johnny Cash, Green Day, The Fratellis, The Who, Great Big Sea... It just goes on and on.
SOUTH PARK - Matt & Trey have been making me laugh for 13 years & the show is as good as it ever was. I may not always agree w. what they have to say but I love that they're brave enough to say it.
X-MEN - My almost 2 decade long love of X-Men & the comic book medium knows few bounds. It permeates nearly everything I've ever done creatively in one way or another.
COWBOY BEBOP - My anime phase was brief, but I've always thought CB to be the single finest example of the genre. It had what I can only describe as a 'smoothness' that stuck with me. Every single frame of that show oozed Pure Cool.
JOE MADUREIRA - I've seen Joe in dozens of these maps, so I'm sure I'm not the only one here who felt all the more motivated to learn to draw comics looking at his style. It still blows me away. Also he wrote me a letter once! Oh Joe, come back, we miss you so much!
MYSTERY SCIENCE THEATER 3000 - Best. Show. Ever. At the very least the bad movies the gang forced their way through are a great lesson on how NOT to do things. MST3k has gotten me through some of the darkest days in my life and I love these guys so hard it kinda chokes me up.
BRIAN KEENE - Brian is awesome and second only to Mr. King on my favorite writers list. And I don't say that just because he bought me a drink once. I say that because his books are fun and dark and scary, and because he is a great writing teacher, and also because he puts up with me hanging around.
NATURE & STUFF - I think that's pretty self-explanatory, hmm? I particularly like pine trees and mountains and being on the water.
DEVIANTART - Hey, if this place DIDN'T have some influence on me I wouldn't have done this meme in the first place! Seriously, the majority of my creative efforts since I showed up here have been driven and inspired by the folks around DA and I love this place for that.
J SCOTT CAMPBELL - While I think Campbell's over -sexualization of the female form tends to cross the line into 'laughable' a little too often, his art is amazing on many levels and I admire it, especially his attention to detail & his talent with faces. His characters have definite looks and unique attributes and that is a great thing.
SCARY SHIT! - I've developed a taste for horror & the macabre over the years, be it books or movies or reality itself, and it drives me creatively like few other things can. It's also made me friends and that rocks.
GARGOYLES - I loved me some Disney Afternoon growing up, and Gargoyles was the best show ever to play that line up. Fantasy, action, sci fi, whatever. It blended it all together seamlessly. And Demona is the most kick ass Disney villain ever rendered.
LEWIS BLACK - My all-time favorite comedian. I enjoy being funny & the easiest way to be funny for me is to channel my anger, which I have plenty of. Nobody does it like Mr. Black.
OLD STUFF - Everything old has a story. I love history, antiques, Americana, that sort of thing. It plays a huge roll in a good bit of my writing.
BISHOP - More specifically, Israel 'Bishop' Gomez, my pen pal from Texas. He sees my characters in ways my brain can't always wrap itself around. Check out my gallery for his work. We've been out of touch for while, which is probably my fault. I should do something about that.
MOVIES - I am a movie buff. I am a movie nerd. I am a movie snob, from time to time. I am (almost) undefeated at SceneIt. When I write I see movies in my head, complete with full casts, music & special effects.
VENTURE BROS. - A great show & a great study in characterization. If I start talking about all the ways this show kicks ass I will never stop.
Stuff I wanted to include but either forgot or ran out room - Star Wars, 80's cartoons and Disney animated movies. Other comic artists I couldn't fit in include Jim Lee, Chris Bachalo, Mark Brooks, Randy Green & Humberto Ramos.

Yes, I love Rifftrax! When I found RT I thought "Now I understand how the X-Men must feel when they're friends come back from the dead." I went to the live show Thursday night, it had me laughing so hard I cried.
