I have always wondered how people colored in greyscale and then colored on top of that? How do you do that btw?

I've only used this method a few times, so I haven't quite gotten it down to a science yet. The basic idea is that you do your drawing all in gray scale, that way all you're worrying about is value. Once you've got the gray scale painting done, you use multiply or color layers above the gray scale painting to add color. I haven't entirely figured out the best ways to use those two different layer types. I basically just experimented until i got it to look right. Once you've got the basic colors using those layer styles, then you merge everything and then paint in extra details and lighting in color. That might not be the best explanation, I'm still learning this method myself. If i get it all figured out, maybe I'll try to do a proper tutorial.

A tutorial would be great! I will have to experiment next time I am doing this type of work.

amazing!
Could you please clarify a step when you "started the greyscale render, using a mask to hide a line work"? I can't get how to use mask to hide the lines
and, what actually do you do during the "greyscale render"? Do u just use grey brushes and create shadows? Or is there something I've missed?....

Sure, i'll try and clarify a bit. What i mean by gray scale render is exactly what you said. I don't use any color, i do all the shading and everything in grays.
The reason for this is that i sometimes have a hard time getting the color and shading right at the same time. By doing it all in gray scale first, i just have
to worry about the lights and darks. As for the mask, all of my line work is on a separateΒ  layer above everything else. As i shade the image i use a mask
on the line layer to remove the lines without actually erasing them, that way if i mess up and need to see the line work again, i can just turn the mask off.
I hope that makes sense, and thanks.
