Description While this review was really irritating to sit through, the last few minutes offended me:

"People like to laugh, to think, and even be scared, but no one anywhere likes to be disgusted!"

Who gives you the right to say what people actually enjoy? There's a reason why Drawn Together had an audience. I understand why some people would dislike "Drawn Together". It's a show that's not for everyone. However, its raunchy theme is SUBJECTIVE, meaning while some people will be disgusted, others will find the humor to be amusing. You can say those people have bad taste if you want, but Drawn Together is a comedy show, no matter how you think it works for yourself.

"There are rules to comedy, and if you fail at reaching then, then your comedy will fail!"

NO. There are no rules to comedy. Even the simplest things can make someone laugh. Once again, comedy is subjective. What may not work for you, can work for others. No one thinks the same way.

I... I lost respect for this individual. People, enjoy what you want. I understand that there will be people who won't like something, but there's no rule book that says a cartoon CAN'T be raunchy just for the sake of being edgy.

Oh, and by the way, her name is "Toot", not "toots". It's called simple researching on Wikipedia.

EDIT: Wow, this definitely became a controversial deviation. Just to let you know, even after what I say here, I don't hate him as a person, and I never will. I just found this review to have plenty of flaws. I did agree with him on the animation though. If you still enjoy his content and agree with the review, that's fine! We all have different tastes, that was the point of making this whole thing.

That's basically most of the review in general. Only point I agreed him with was the animation, though I know why it was used in Flash. That being said, I can agree with you about the overly long gags, but even that can be subjective as well, depending on what the joke is of course. Also, funny thing, that's another thing I can relate to you on. Because of him, I watched Stressed Eric, which is now another cartoon I enjoy watching.

Eh, fair enough, but such common sense rules are essential for those who follow more conventional methods.

And again, I must say I wouldn't mind Enter's reviews so much, really I wouldn't....except that again, half the time he sounds so BOOOORED! Seriously, like I said, half the time it's like even HE'S sick of his own work! Doesn't help that he's not funny, and when he tries to be funny it's hampered by his dull delivery. He has good intentions, and he does know what he's talking about..but it's like with Tommy Oliver (a.k.a. BronyCurious): he's stretching out one issue just to prove his own points, which frankly NEVER works in the long-run!

Wow, he actually made this one? Well, in my honest opinion: While I was never allowed to watch Drawn Together, I don't think the plot sounds bad. In fact, Twilight/Bubbles cursing has to be HILARIOUS in my opinion!

I can understand if people get offended easily, but as long as it's not misconceptions, then there's nothing to worry about.

It's important to research something before you watch it, than you understand a little better.
Being disgusted is natural part of life, just like being scared or sad.
I want to see Enterboy try to sit through an episode of Trailer Park Boys or Clockwork Orange or Human Centipede or what not!

BTW, not a day old and over 120 faves amazing!

You know if I could take back those 40 minutes, I'd go watch 2 episodes of the Trailer Park Boys. I much rather watch Ricky do crazy shit that'll piss Mr. Lahey off rather than seeing him talk about how DTTM is so bad and what we want for cartoons.

Hell, I'd also watch the episode from It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia where the gang kidnapped a critic cuz he gave them a bad review even though what he said was true, I can imagine the DT gang doing the same thing to Enter.

Ok, that was dark but yeah, if TPB was a cartoon, he'll probably criticize Ricky for being an unlikable ass which he can be but is redeemable imo.

Doesn't he have a problem with people being assholes to each other, which basically happens in almost every cartoon and sitcom?

DnMStarsi In reply to HCShannon [2015-10-29 02:13:25 +0000 UTC]

I don't but I don't care about his likes and dislikes anymore. And if he has that problem, then wow, he has get a good grip of reality (again) cuz our world has assholes who say mean shit and do shit without any punishment. It sucks but that's life sometimes. And he knows it. But that's my opinion and now, I could care less about him.

Human Centipede from what I can tell is just a desperate attempt to shock people. There is actually artistic value in Clockwork Orange.

HungryScorpion In reply to ??? [2015-10-28 19:31:12 +0000 UTC]

Honestly, I only really watch Animated Atrocities when it's talking about stuff like new SpongeBob and maybe some other low quality animation because I like seeing stuff get torn apart, figuratively of course. I will admit, I'm not a fan of raunchy humor. It's not that I have a weak stomach or a weak will, I just never understood why people find it funny. To me, it's basically just showing a girl's boobs for a few seconds, making a joke about them, and then pulling the shirt back up. That's not an accurate comparison, I know, but that's just how I see it. I respect those who enjoy raunchy humor, and those who don't. It's just not my cup of tea.

That being said, I enjoy Mr. Enter's videos for what they are, but I will admit, they can be a little...well, ridiculous, I guess. I don't agree with him on certain things, but other things I can see his point of view. But whatever. I'm kinda rambling

Mr. Enter is pretty much the poor man's Nostalgia Critic, I don't mind some of his reviews, some I've even found quite humorous, however the difference between Enter & NC is The Critic is Doug playing a character, where Enter kind of let's his real feelings about what he thinks about in his reviews get in the way

I'll likely watch the review this weekend, probably for nostalgic reasons of being a fan, but Mr. Enter is by no means a good critic. He has made fine points at times, but on the whole, he's too personal & self-absorbed (projects himself too much), and his reviews appeal to emotions too often. A critic's job is to state what works & what doesn't, & why, & there are, despite what we've been fed, objective standards to art, & to comedy. How it makes one FEEL is subjective, so that isn't what determines quality, or else the very act of criticism is rendered unnecessary. So, a critic must separate himself from his various biases to judge it from an "art-first" standpoint. Enter has shown himself to be unable, such as in May the Best Pet Win (the "rape-culture" episode), Putting Your Hoof Down (that kind of suggests neither Pinkie nor Rarity have (or had) high regard for their professions), the Seahorse Seashell Party-Screams of Silence duo. One of the worst parts of his Animated Atrocities scoring system is the Rancid Morals section. Morals are subjective because they're feelings-based. Art answers the question "how?" rather than "what?," so a better way to use the message is see how the work phrases the message (if it does), or how the message deepens the work in terms of things like character, symbolism, and such.

MNich92 In reply to Marches45 [2015-10-28 19:00:32 +0000 UTC]

The thing with Mr. Enter is, he seems to have very high standards as to what classifies as a "good" piece of art and what doesn't; and that's where some of his reviews have failed, and where his reviews seem a bit... egotistical at times.

As Benjamin Franklin once said, A man wrapped up in himself makes a very small bundle.  Which would be a lesson for anyone (not just John Enter) to learn: You can only focus on yourself so much before you start to piss people off.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Marches45 In reply to MNich92 [2015-10-28 21:28:03 +0000 UTC]

His standards rely heavily on his own biases. One of his good points from Screams of Silence is the fact that Quagmire's sister & her abusive boyfriend are dull. The failings due to morality are just…why is the idea of morality still propagated as a determinant of quality? It's a failure to separate fiction from reality.

I doubt that. He thinks cartoons like that, despite popularity which he knows it has, are bad in terms of characters, story, anything that he thinks doesn't make us feel or think but disgust because we either all think like him or he knows what we really need for cartoons and that's just wrong. I don't care if his writing tips are true, I won't take his advices.
