a female-to-male (ftm) trans person was born biologically female (that means vagina, ovaries, etc), and is presenting and transition to male.
In most cases for ftm people, and like for Duncan, he still doesn't have anything between his legs.
A male-to-female (mtf) trans person was born biologically male (penis, testicles, etc) and is presenting and transitioning to female.
In most cases this includes breast augmentation and SRS (which is a surgery that removes the man parts and replaces them with female parts), but sometimes because they can't afford it a mtf girl will still have her male bits.
