Description
This is my old landraider model (old renders in gallery), slightly updated and rerendered. most changes are in the lighting, which i reckon is much moodier and more interesting. slight model updates, slight texture updates, different environment colors.Related content

This is really cool. I looked on your site, and is the picture with you and the vehicle rendered/photoshoped, or is it an actual model?

wow, very nice Crusader there. I've done a similar project and I just couldn't figure out how to get those semi rounded hatchs on the top. So two question.
1 are you using maya or 3DS Max?
2 how did you model those hatches?
and 3...I lied @_@
3. can we see a render of the back?
again, awesome modeling!

Your project looks very good! Mine is done with 3d studio. The hatches started as a Lathe and then I used boolean compound objects to carve away at it. There is some footage of the back, as well as some very simple animation, in my demo reel which is here: [link]

ah well booleans I know. I work in Maya so I'll have to figure the rest out but the boolean idea does make a lot of sense. Thanks for the compliment. I going to do some more detail on it some time in the future. that was a 3 week project...nearly killed me @_@. Thanks again for the help!

Are you sure this thing has textures/materials? It looks 100% smooth and base-shaded (no texture) to me. The rest does seem very right on scale and many details in there. Arr.. it just screams for some wheathered textures, materials and some more interesting scenery. You can re-use it as many times as you want, what are you waiting for?

sbv20 In reply to mikkow [2005-03-09 03:24:56 +0000 UTC]
Thanks for looking. The only material is a matte red, I haven't ever learned to texture properly. My deviations are more about modelling and lighting, texturing isn't something that interests me enough to get over the learning curve.

Nice render of a Crusader. Do you collect Blood Angels by any chance..?

I do not, I just like the colors. I used to collect some warhammer stuff, never BA, but I lost interest. It's still good for modelling, though.

ahhh the ol' faithful land raider 2 linked twin lass-cannons with heavy bolters on the front I guess you're the 1st 40K fan I've seen so far on DA, are there anymore? still i'd be really great if you can dirty it up - would look flipping AWESOME!

sbv20 In reply to pixelboy33 [2004-11-10 18:30:16 +0000 UTC]
aint no laser cannons here. this is the Crusader variant. it has 6 bolters in each side sponson as opposed to las cannons, twin linked assault cannons up front as opposed to heavy bolters, and frag grenade launcher things on the front.

this thing kicks ass. i loved the old one, but something about this one makes me like it even more. for some reason it always reminded me of a G.I. Joe toy i used to have. it would be cool if the floor were industrial looking with bolts and that black and yellow caution tape or something... ya know? anyway, amazing job! it's extremely realistic.

thanks man. i wanted to keep the background simple still for this one, but i may do something more interesting down the road. if i manage to make some soldiers too i will do a good environment.

I'd love to see it with battle scares, dirt and maybe a few decals...
It's just a little too clean atm...
Beautiful model!

thanks. i've tried texturing, boy is it hard. it took about 3 days to texture .5% of it and it looked awful and unrealistic. texturing isn't for me.

Maybe you could use one of those dirt plugins?
They appear to be good for quick results...

you should really sign on to a half life mod team. Especially with source coming out. They could use some good model-ers on many projects, I'm sure.
