Never, EVER read shoujo manga and look at Klimt art at the same time. EVER. Do you hear me? DON'T DO IT. Only bad, bad things happen. I think the original design is actually on the envelope to Minimask's birthday party, but it was done in pen and is long gone by now.Heh, the inside of their bodies reminds me of those posters for the parts of the cow that are seen in butcher shops.
I have another one that I did after this where I had the BRIGHT IDEA (sarcasm) to try watercolors again because J.M.W. Turner's skies are the shizz (yes, the shizz, it totally applies. Look at The Burning of Parliament). Actually, he worked a lot in oil too, but I'm broke and watercolor is what I have. Anyway, I basically ditched the blank squares and replaced it with streaks of grey. It is hideous.
NOW WHAT DID I TELL YOU, BOYS AND GIRLS? That's right, never, EVER read shoujo manga and view paintings by Gustav Klimt at the same time. BAD THINGS HAPPEN. I JUST MIGHT HUNT YOU DOWN FOR YOUR OWN SAFETY.

Seriously though, the composition and colors in this are wonderful. Plus you showed the figures "dissolving" in a pretty convincing manner. I gotta ask, what Shojo manga was it?

And yes, I like squares. They seem science-y to me. Circles feel elemental, but there is too much of a spiritual connection. Just like I can't use triangles because of the Trinity. Argh, now I have to go see if there are any religions connected to squares.

Eh, there's probably a few, but if they're that obscure you probably don't have to worry. Although could ovals and unacute triangles work? Most of the spiritual/religious stuff relates with them being spaced out correctly.

True. Ovals always bother me, though. I want to make them circles. I'll have to experiment with the un-acute triangles, though. That sounds interesting.
I dunno, I like the squares because they just seem... Right? But it wouldn't hurt to try something else out, to see if it works better.

I probably say it about everything, but this is definitely one of the BEST works you've done in a long time.
The only way it could possibly be improved is if you put something nifty in that square in the top right.

I suppose that's okay from time to time, though. I like unicorns and faeries as much as the next person.

I thought it was a little sad. I guess because I took it as them dissolving into nothing, but they were still holding onto each other.

They are dissolving into nothing, but everyone dies alone. Their attempts are futile at best and a fantasy at the worst.
