Description
It’s cool and extremely thoughtful to look out for artists that you follow when it comes down to finding their work traced or style “Adopted”.
However, it being such a taboo, I’m going to lay down a few things with the hope that we can all meet a mutual understanding.
No artist, EVER, just /has/ a style from the first moment that they put pen to paper. Never. No chance. You see things and you are influenced by them.
That’s just the way that it is and there is literally no way that you can argue to change my opinion. Fact. For example, I could compile a massive list of
my influences - artists that I admire and am inspired by, films, aesthetics, whatever.
forgive my shitty art. I was in a hurry and it is v cold in my house

I saw someone make a big call out post for someone using the same hair style and similar gradients.
I actually commented and said to the artist it would have been best to consult them privately because the only similarities were the use of blue (different hues and shaded of blue)
A scarf
And a light blue blush on the joints of the creature.
They claimed the blue blushing was the exact same colour but you "have to colour pick the PERFECT location"
Everything else was different and the 'stolen version' was more complex than the original xD
I've also seen young artists scared off the site for taking inspiration from other artist's styles.
Someday people will be claiming the entirety of 'anime" style and nobody but one artist will be 'allowed' to draw in it xD
Heck if someone replicated my style as long as they were honest about their inspiration it would flatter me. And I'd honestly be more interested in chatting with them about art knowing I'm an inspiration for them. Maybe even teach them any tips and tricks I learnt you know.

THANK YOU HOLY FUCK! I hate seeing callout posts that don't even involve the original artist AT ALL!!

This! This so much. Thank you. It's ridiculous when you see someone call out a possible thief when they don't even ask the creator first.

Hahaha god that must be a pain for you two.
The worst though has to be when the artists make a call out post without even trying to reason tho? Why would you start a war with the thief without trying to sort it out like human beings rather than rabbid dogs.
