didn't you make a tutorial on DOA, on how to make a doll stand that goes in the ground? I remember this picture being used on it.

Thanks a lot! He's a very good poser, thanks to Li Wei, the author of the body! I used a bit of aid, though

Holy freakin crap that's amazing! I don't think I've ever lusted after a doll before...
All the little details on his outfit are just astounding, bravo!

Many thanks! The details are not so little, he is 70 cm high. I worked with Barbie size, that is much harder.

You are really talented!! What material did you use for the armor and sword?
Do you accept order for customising BJD?

Thank you so much! "Apoxie Sculpt" 2-part epoxy putty is used for the armor set, the sword is cut out from aluminium, the tsuba and the shank are from brass, the handle is sculpted out of Apoxie too, and the nylon cord is added.
No, I do not take commissions, I'm sorry, they would be too expensive))

wow! Hmm.. not easy.. it takes a lot of material knowledge to do this and time (I believe).
One more question (if you don't mind). How do you smoothen out the armor so well that it doesn't seem handmade at all?

scargeear In reply to Zetahadrian [2010-09-30 09:34:02 +0000 UTC]
Thanks again! Yes, the research about materials and its qualities is mandatory. The trial and error with those armor pieces was a real pain in the ass, I must confess.
The smoothing is done using sandpaper of several grits: the rougher one (150 on the solid base), then finer one (180 on more thin and flexible base), and the finest one in the end (600). Handwork, as you see))
Then the set was painted with car primer, car metallic paint and acrylic car laquer consistently, this smoothed the surface to the final look.

*SALUTE* You are brillant and determined, as I can see! I feel like trying out something using apoxie after hearing out from you. Can I come to you for advice if I am stuck in the process?

Yes, you may ask me via notes here) Apoxie is a handy material, simple in use though. Manufacturer has the cheapest price I've seen, here's the link: [link]
