The Carnival King interrupts, making Hakko pause in his explanation on how fireflies glow. Hakko looks to the smaller cham

"What you're telling me, is that fireflies do not use ancient magic, but instead use liquids from their own bodies to make themselves glow?" Carnival king questions as he looked to the herpian with an eyebrow lifted in disbelief.

"That's right! They use a chemical reaction called Bioluminesiant. How it works is the enzyme luciferase acts on the luciferin, in the presence of magnesium ions, ATP, and oxygen to produce light. The can constantly produce the light, unlike glowsticks, which contain hydrogen peroxide and tert-butyl alcohol in separated parts of the stick. That's why you have to bend the glowstick and shake it afterward!" Hakko says, exclaiming all his glowing knowledge, raising his head high and beaming proudly. He looks back to the Carnival King, who was just staring at him blankly. Now sheepish, Hakko clears his throat.

"Er, well, that's what I read. When I was younger, my father told me that even if science was involved, there's always a bit of magic in everything. That's what he believes. So maybe they have chemicals, but maybe the only way they can produce that chemical is magic!" Hakko says, taking an empty jar from the ground and holding it so fireflies can easily be guided into the jar without harm. Carnival King grins with this explanation, nodding his head as he watched the cham hang another jar on the abandoned street posts.

"Speaking of Father, where is he?" Hakko looked around. Vidar had joined him on a nightly stroll so they were both stuck here together, along with a few other chams that seemed to have winded up here.

"Oh him. He seemed rather moody, so I summoned pollen and dumped it on him." Carnival King waves a hand dismissively. Hakko looks at him with a questioning look.

"Why pollen?-" Hakko was about to ask when he could hear yelling and running coming towards them. He looks, only to see his old cham of a father running from a hoard of fireflies that seem to want the pollen that was oh graciously dumped on him.

"HAKKO I HAVE ANGERED THOR'S DISCIPLES AND THEY WISH TO ENACT THIER VENGEANCE UPON ME!" Vidar roars as he scampered, tripped, and slipped to run from the dangerous,
ahem,
'lightning bugs.

Okay, but Vidar running from lightning bugs thinking that their actually dangerous creatures, is hilarious.

This is my weekly prompt for the fireflies event, I am cutting real close to the due date with this thing but I'll be damned if I don't participate in these events! because these are actually really fun qwq.
