Yup, it was inevitable. I lasted as long as I could, but I could no longer resist. Now I just need to make sure I don't give in and draw ponies ALL DAY EVERY DAY.

I've seen it happen to other artists.

I couldn't help myself, I had to get at least a little bit of the ponies out of my system.

The symbol is called a "cutie mark". Ponies get them when they figure out their special talent or a trait that makes them unique as an individual. Rune's cutie mark symbolizes just that.
