Description
Added 8/04/07A keythong is supposedly a male griffin. They have no wings, as you see, but they have various golden spikes covering their bodies.
They're neat-o!

Male griffins not having wings sounds ridiculous to me. I think the keythong is a different species.

Sadly, it's not a very commonly known creature, and so it's not very popular in art. But it should be, it's a majestic creature!

i know but the keythong thinks that the gryphon's wings are beautiful and he does not know that the gryphon thinks he's spikes are cute. note that keythongs can fiy without wing this is true

Ahh, interesting-of all the bizarre things, this reminds me of calico-pattern cats, which supposedly are always FEMALE. Go figure. And hey, join the crowd.

Lol, yeah, I heard that about calicos, too. My sister kept trying to convince me that if our cats had a male calico kitten, it would be worth a million bucks.

Wow-live and learn...I'd certainly heard of griffins, but had no idea there was THIS much difference 'tween the sexes.
Still another fantastic job-festooned with elegant spines, forelegs sporting truly murderous eagle-talons, and I dig that little beak-notch...detail like that is vital in lending critters derived (partly) from a bird of prey that extra character.

Thank you! The Keythong is a "newer" mythical creature, made mostly to be a heraldic device. They're always male, while griffins can be both.
This is what I do all day on the internet....look up generally useless stuff that facinates me.

Neat! I love the expression on its face, a clever but cruel look. Nice work on the furry parts as well as the spines, although I would hate to be him if I fell on my back. Overall, a really nice job, and this is your concept I take it?

Indeed, you were. Although mine are not as all-encompassing as yours seems to be, I have a few as well. They are most interesting, and its kinda strange, when you get down to it, that two different cultures separated by miles of ocean can have similar creatures in their folk lore, it makes you wonder....
