I love how you were able to capture Tom's facial features without making him look so recognizable that people would see little else and ask why he has red hair! when Loki in the old Norse tales really did have wild (it's implied red) hair and sometimes horns when he choose to. The wild mischievous demigod isn't trapped beneath Tom's personification at all. You did wonderful! I applaud u.Β

Mythological Loki had horns? How's that? (Wonder if that inspired the horned helmet in the Marvel version.)

Well they are a far cry from what Marvel has in the movies or the comics, but yes. Occasionally he choose to array himself with horns, often like that of a gazelle, or an elk. But that was rarely.

Um... demigod? He was and is a god

technically in Norse mythology because he was cast out of Asgard (at least 5 times by Odin and 2 times by Thor), he's no longer a full fledged god. He's a demigod along with his brother, thor, even if his brother was accepted and welcomed back into Asgard and now rules Asgard. Loki was never officially accepted back into Asgard, and there for it still a demigod.Β
The movies are about equal in accuracy for Mythology and Comics. I'd say they are trying to follow the comics more, but they want to keep the mythological foundation. That is really the only reason they made Loki more Norse looking than in spandex and gold underwear, and had him trick Thor so often in Thor the Dark World.

Actually, the comics are pretty far off from the lore. Laufey was his mother, not his father. Odin and Loki are brothers by oath, not adopted father and son. And the Vanir, who are not a part of Asgard, are also considered gods, so one does not HAVE to be a part of Asgard to be a god. Odin and several other Asgardians are depicted as being part if not half Jotun, so if one is going to argue that Loki is a demigod because of the jotun in him, this same can be said of mighty Odin himself, who, by the way, clearly stated in the lore that he will not be honoured in a hall where Loki has not been honoured first.

Hm, now I don't really know any more which one is better - the one
from the movies, or yours. But to be honest both look great, and since
I'm an addict when it comes to original mythology... I choose yours

Sans the horns, this is how I remembered Loki, a little nebulous thought in the back of my mind, waiting for the right time to come to the foreground. Β And wait it did until May 2012, the time I saw Thor for the first time and began reading Norse myths.

Well, in the first book, Runemarks, Harris describes Loki as a red haired man/boy. So ever since I read that book I picture Loki having red hair.
