Description
Geren (black) and the Defender (white) are OOAK (one of a kind) Welsh Cob type D horse sculptures. They were each completely handmade using polymer clay over wire and tin foil. These two took a really long time to do but I love how they turned out. They are pegged onto a base to balance, although the way the photo is it might be hard to tell which is base and which is ground. The base is a mix of tin foil, clay, fabric, moss, pebbles, and polymer glaze. Each horse has a rod embedded into one of their legs that allows them to attach to the base, and each of them are removable. The hardest part about making these was positioning the armature in the base so that the angles of the pegs corresponded to the right poses for the two horses.
Each horse is 5 inches from chest to bum, and the base itself is about 12 inches around. The horses are painted in acrylics. The Defender has blonde mohair and Geren has tibetan lamb fur for hair. Each has inset resin eyes; Geren's are deep blue and Defender's are grey.
They were a lot of fun to make. I enjoyed bringing them to the park to get photos as well. It seems even more that they're two boys out in the field frolicking
These were a commission so are not for sale

I would never have guessed that. Do you have a background in sculpture in general?

Not really, I've never taken it much in school or anything. When I was like 12 years old I did a week of summer camp with pottery classes though, it was mostly using the wheel.
