Description
Geren (black) and the Defender (white) are OOAK (one of a kind) Welsh Cob type D horse sculptures. They were each completely handmade using polymer clay over wire and tin foil. These two took a really long time to do but I love how they turned out. They are pegged onto a base to balance, although the way the photo is it might be hard to tell which is base and which is ground. The base is a mix of tin foil, clay, fabric, moss, pebbles, and polymer glaze. Each horse has a rod embedded into one of their legs that allows them to attach to the base, and each of them are removable. The hardest part about making these was positioning the armature in the base so that the angles of the pegs corresponded to the right poses for the two horses.
Each horse is 5 inches from chest to bum, and the base itself is about 12 inches around. The horses are painted in acrylics. The Defender has blonde mohair and Geren has tibetan lamb fur for hair. Each has inset resin eyes; Geren's are deep blue and Defender's are grey.
They were a lot of fun to make. I enjoyed bringing them to the park to get photos as well. It seems even more that they're two boys out in the field frolicking
These were a commission so are not for sale

Beautiful work! I decided to pick this as my favorite, because I'm a fan of the Welsh Cob (D) horses, and someday hope to have one of my own. (I've owned and trained horses in the past, so I am impressed with your grasp of the equine anatomy and body language!) Very well done indeed!

Ima steal these from you >.> xD I am so jealous you can sculpt so well! I would LOVE to be able to sculpt my own model horses! Are these the size of Breyer Traditional Models?

Thanks! These guys are about 4 inches long each, so slightly smaller than classic. I haven't done many traditional sized ones, most of mine are classic or a bit smaller

that is awesome. I've heard of people who can make their own tack and jumps, but never horses before.

Thanks so much! It was nice to do simpler ones, the way the poses were it made it less stressful. And it's no problem, I appreciate everyone's support

I could say this about any of your sculptures really, but if I did not know better I would swear this was a photo of real horses. I keep expecting them to move... in slow motion, with some sort of epic orchestral music to accompany them.

Thanks! I never used to do outdoor photos because I live in an apartment. But I've been just tossing them in a box and going to the park. I just sort of find a little patch of ground, sit on my belly and take random pictures. I'm not sure I'm the person to give advice, since I'm not very good at photography, I just sort of point and shoot. Actually, now that I think of it, *Indigo-Ocean did a tutorial on photographing sculptures. It was more indoor type photos but still could be helpful!
