Description
Well, let's talk about this.1. I was frustrated by the fact that I've only been drawing Loki and drawing a bunch of muscles sounded fun.
My boyfriend, of course, says he's not muscular enough. True, I will give you that he's a bit trimmer here than in many incarnations of the character. Part of that is because there is no other way those pants could stay on at all (a point I'll get to), and 2, if you've read the comics, you know that "savage hulk" is not the only hulk and that some of his other forms have had much more human proportioning, which makes more sense with the fact that he's not raging-out at something here. I didn't feel like drawing him angry, he's always drawn angry. Also the reference image was of a guy with a very trim waist, I did exaggerate the muscles a lot... it just wasn't enough, apparently. I'll do better in the future. The angle was weird on the face too, so it was challenging to make him look like any incarnation in particular. Though he's closer to the most recent, especially in regards to hair.
2. I felt like making a commentary piece on the sheer lack of physics in comic books.
Okay, so someone who is 5 foot 8, and 130 pounds (just about my size within part of an inch and 2 pounds), has their bones thicken by 3 fold gains 3 feet in height, and 1000 pounds in muscle (plus the change in blood flow, organs, glands, skin -whatever his hair does- etc...).... not matter how dense that muscle is, those pants are not staying on. They aren't that much too big for Bruce, they aren't really stretchy, and the comic books state a few times that his skin can be very rough, as his pores kind of hulk-out too, or some such drivel. And IF they do [stay on], you had better have good excuses. Like, say, the fly being added to the width of the waist, for one. For another, the seams should tear over the thighs. Also there is no way they'd stay on his hips or higher, not without crushing him in very uncomfortable ways, so they'd sit pretty low. (And yes, the fly is -actually- undone in this drawing, for reasons of science, not perversion, thank you.)
If I was the Hulk... I'd probably just tear them off in frustration over them being so tight.
The answer, really, is to either remove pants, or make specially designed ones. And that's were this gets funny.
Tony Stark has not managed to make him pants, despite that he could. My theory being he obviously derives way too much vicarious enjoyment out of his "freak out and turn into an enormous green rage monster" bit, and it wouldn't be half as satisfying without tearing out of restrictive fabric.
what's funnier? Bruce hasn't designed special fabric yet. If you read the comics, you know he could. He makes this whole line of technology on par with Tony's called "bannertech" And I haven't seen special pants yet. It either has to do with some weird esteem complex, him really hating all purple pants of the world, or him deriving a satisfaction from it that he wont admit to.
What's even funnier than that? Countless straight male animators and writers over the years have derived for too much vicarious enjoyment from it to want to do anything at all to change it. It's part of the fun of the character... and yet the only way it works is if the pants themselves have the magic power of censorship.
3. I figured the almost-nudity would be appreciated.
I can add a warning if anyone thinks it's needed, but really, he is covered, and that's kind of the point.
I screwed around with the "simulate pressure" option for the pen tool... You like? I also originally painted a very different puddle, but started over because all I managed to do was make the ground look mouldy... The rocks were easier for me than usual... and my clouds are getting closer to where I want them.
... Today's update is brought to you by Advil, Gamma-radiation, the word "vicarious" and the letter "Y".

After a wile he designs pants that stretch yeah, but until then they're just normal pants, except that they are clearly magic...

Thanks! I had a great reference for it, so I knew where to put the lines at least, it still gave me some trouble in the details, but I'm glad it came out ^^ I think it's the most comic book looking thing I've done, except actual comics.
