Rather love this (even if it's taken me nearly a month to comment...). Your wordplay is spectacular (as always). I love how the title ties in, too. "Meta" could apply to most of your stories. And "physical" plays off both "fought" and "block". There's also the shape of it: "Fought writer's block" is short but tody, while the spacing (and the shorter length) make "Lost the plot" look truly defeated.

SCFrankles In reply to anapests-and-ink [2013-04-15 13:27:09 +0000 UTC]

I know you'll always get to me eventually

I was pleased with the title ^^ And I didn't think too much about the shape (there weren't really any words in the story I could have exchanged for other ones. The shape wasn't something I truly had control over) but I think you're right: the shortness of the second sentence does add to the sense of defeat.

(Thank you for the fave... )

very much so.
Worse still is knowing how the bits connect but not being able to write it out...Struggling to write the first prolog, which sets the stage for the second prolog and the rest of the story.....ahh, I even worked out the timeline, exact WEEKS and how they pass....and now I can't write it. *sobs*

SCFrankles In reply to CitrineG [2013-03-24 23:18:23 +0000 UTC]

I know this is obvious advice but could you work on another part of the story and then come back to the beginning - work round the block that way..? In any case - have a hug

... In my dictionary next to "writer's block" is "writer's cramp", in German "Schreibkrampf", which sounds to me more like "writing cramp" - and even if the intended meaning is "physically not to be able to write", the actually to me implied meaning is "cramp to not stop writing". Strange. Maybe because of the closeness to "Schreikrampf" - which the English language smartly avoids with "screaming fit". Oh my! Thank you for your excitation!-)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SCFrankles In reply to fantom125 [2013-03-21 15:26:19 +0000 UTC]

And thank you for the fave So, you're saying that to you "Schreibkrampf" almost feels like the opposite to "writer's block" - an inability to stop writing because that would cause you pain..?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

fantom125 In reply to SCFrankles [2013-03-22 08:34:49 +0000 UTC]

Yes, that's my feeling with this word.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SCFrankles In reply to fantom125 [2013-03-22 23:15:07 +0000 UTC]

I've just had a rummage - in English the actual opposite to writer's block is hypergraphia. (Ah, the internet - always teaching me something new ^^)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

fantom125 In reply to SCFrankles [2013-03-25 07:40:21 +0000 UTC]

Oh - Wikipedia also knows "Hypergraphie" as a German word. I never heard of it. I would prefer "Schreibwut", by knowing of its non-exactness!-)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SCFrankles In reply to fantom125 [2013-03-25 17:31:15 +0000 UTC]

I just looked up "Schreibwut" - there seems to be a writers' forum with that name ^^ I'm wondering what we could have in English as a more informal form of "hypergraphia" - maybe writing-fever..? ^^
