Description Superstructure of the Star Destroyer, probably the most demanding section except the engines. Lots of nasty angles and complex greebling required.

Amazing work; I'm really liking the overall (incredible!) detail, but especially the "secondary gun" turrets I'm spotting here and there. Reminds me of the WWII-era Iowa class's 5-inch twin-gun turrets arrayed along its flanks.

How well does this stay together or does it like to break because of the size, weight and shape? Is it hallow or solid from the inside? How heavy is this star destroyer?

One of our LUG members - Allemov - made a little movie with preparations to the exhibition. There are also some scenes which show the SD taken out of the car, so you can just see it by yourself

Can you make the Harrower-class dreadnought from the old republic mmo?

I could in theory, but most likely I won't. The Impstar is very well known to basically anyone in the world and is instantly recognisable; even if there was not a single AFOL on earth it would be well recognised and appreciated. Harrower on the other hand - regardless of if it is nice or not - is basically nothing more but Yet Another Ship from Some Game.

There are just few other ships which are worth spending that much money on them. Enterprise A or D. 2001 Odyssey Discovery. Firefly, maybe. Nebulon-B frigate, Millennium falcon...

large scale X-wing, though, hm hm... and I mean LARGE scale...

Oh alright then can you do the Enterprise A then?

I already did and it has even been posted on DA

Thanks for the vocab lesson, I'd never heard the term, "greebling" before. Yes, I can see you certainly did a lot of that on this. BTW is all of this just clicked together or were some bits modified and or glued?

No glue or modifications, that is the whole point of lego modelling. If I were cutting pieces, or gluing them, using lego for that would be stupid, as it is really, really expensive compared to regular model kits. There is one notable exception to this no-mod rule in our community, though: so-called "flex hoses". Those are little hollow hoses which in some official LEGO sets are designed to be cut, so cutting them to pieces is acceptable and "legal".

Flex hoses? Is that how the edges of the engines are made to be round? I couldn't really tell what was going on there from the pic.

Scharnvirk In reply to Nevir-Saedi [2014-06-02 22:22:16 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, there is a loop of those hoses going around the rim of each engine - which normally is octagonal. Then there are dozens of tiny little clips attached to these flex hoses...

Gotcha, well it's really cool. What are it's overall dimensions roughly?
