Description The first snowfall of the season fell down today, and there is nothing so beautiful.
This was done in watercolours on cold press.
I think I might need a break from watercolour for a while... I've forgotten what it was I loved about it.

Thanks so much for this amazing critique! It's such a wonderful gift to any artist to have someone care enough to take the time to write like this...
What makes me happiest about your words is that you found it had such a high impact, that was my goal with this portrait, and it is a great feeling to know I have accomplished it with at least one person

You should try it it's not that hard when you get used to it.

Liek you shouldn't but you should . the colours are just increibly pure...but at the sam time they are tainted

This is an incredible piece, and aptly titled. Such a close, tight look at a worn girl. She looks regretful, yet completely unaware of what she's done to herself. Intriguing to wonder about. I find addicts, in themselves, to be interesting...despite my sadness for them. In any event, I'm rambling. This piece makes me think though, and I like finding that in art. Lovely work..

wow, can simple use of watercolor be more beautifully crafted and put together in a composition so greatly matching the colors?

It's amazing schema.

Unsettling. The bright colors initially pull me in, but once I get a good look at the expression on her face, I'm a bit repulsed. In other words, a great piece.

HOLY COW!
The wash on the jaw line is fantastic!
love the sharp transition from light to dark of the clothing. The texture of her collar is memorizing.

Very, very beautiful, That eye...misterious atmosphere going on. You used different colors very well, the mouth equilibrates the light you gave to the upper part of the face...and the lower part have a nice texture.

Hey, try some gouache please, Iยดm sure you will do some great work. Because you have a good technique using different colors.

And I'd like to try gouache some day...I suppose it's just a little bit too expensive for me to get in to right now

i think (i know) i love you.
(though i've told you before)
i'll tell you again.

the night snow was so beautiful, even though it was viewed through the window of a grocery store.

this makes me very uncomfortable, but i love it all the same. i think its the lips. like they are torn apart and misused. so poetic. and "the addict" a bit of an archetypical portrait by accident or purposefully?

another, i love you (still)

I'm transfixed with this painting - I am both repelled and drawn into it. Which means, of course, you nailed the message but good. The dialog about who she is etc only adds to its power.

SchemaTree In reply to BRipin [2009-11-06 04:43:00 +0000 UTC]

I'm so glad you get 'both repelled and drawn into' this image, that's exactly what I was going for and it means so much that you acknowledged it thank you.

BRipin In reply to SchemaTree [2009-11-06 04:47:33 +0000 UTC]

Yah, I rarely feel this kind of emotion with watercolor pieces, but you certainly are skillful with the medium, even if you do need a break (I know that feeling well - I tend to flit around too).

you have sucha interesting picking of colors.. i love it. may i ask why you didn't color in the right eye?

SchemaTree In reply to dotti-pop [2009-11-06 03:46:26 +0000 UTC]

I didn't colour the right eye because I've been thinking about blindness a lot lately, quite simply.

Direct paint for this one. Some of my paintings i will use watercolour pencils...but only a little bit.

These colors are absolutely incredible!

Also, please don't feel down about watercolors. You are evidently very talented, and I'm sure your skills can still take you beyond the use of just one coloring medium but if you loved it, you loved it. Let it be whatever you feel : )

Do I know this person? I'm not sure that I don't...When I start a painting or drawing with no photo or model reference, it seems to take on a face similar to someone who is on my mind at the time of painting it. So this painting, athough not intentional, is a portrait of my sister.
If that makes any sense...
