Description my first attempt at studio photography!!! i set up a little backdrop on the table in my room, used to light sources, and started shooting random ideas. stole this buddha from my brother's room (he has a collection), i think the colors in the gradient look really cool and the detail is nice... but you dont want to hear my thoughts on the photo, i want to hear yours!!! leave comments please, tell me how i did on my first attempt, and how i can come up with better results. thanks.

I see here you encourage advanced critique. I will do my best. I have no formal photographic education.

Some people here are espousing that you should have not cut off the bottom of the statue. I disagree. I like the effect. It balances the use of negative space above and to the left of the statue. And I, personally, am a big fan of negative space. I feel it makes for a very effective form of punctuation for photographs. By the same token, I like how not all of the statue is in perfect focus.

All in all, if this is your first shot, I'd like to see some work when you have some experience under your belt.

Good shot.

material is just a regular peice of white posterboard. the lighting turned out different just by the lights i was using, cant remember, i'd just experiment.

Lovely subject, the buddha has such a happy face.
I do agree with starzshine tho and would have liked to see the bottom of the buddha, too to make this composition more whole. But you've done good with the light and dof here.

I would like to see the bottom of the Buddha to give the pic more weight. The colors are nice. Not one of your most impressive subjects though... come on shawn, you've got more in you then that! <3
