Hi, I'm here from
I really love the concept here. I assume what happened is that the sheep got caught in the bog, died, and the parts of it that were above the mud or water were either picked clean by animals or rotted away over time, leaving only bones. I've seen photos of this kind of thing. Meanwhile, the part of the sheep that was inside the mud/water was preserved.
But that's only one side of what you portray here. The sheep is also, at the same time, in another world. It turns into a cloud - which are often compared to sheep due to their appearance - that flies over a gold-green world. I see two possibilities: either the world below is the same as above and the sheep's spirit flies through it without its body or it has gone to an afterlife. I lean toward the second interpretation because the world above is portrayed as dark and - due to the dominance of coniferous trees - I imagine it's quite cold. The world below, on the other hand, is dominated by bright colours and deciduous trees. So my association is that its spirit has gone to something like the "summerland" of Celtic lore. This afterlife world is also below the earth because after all, that's where dead creatures inevitably go physically over time. It's very impressive the way you express this symbolism in a clear, elegant way.
The one thing I'm not completely clear on is indeed whether the lower world is supposed to be a different world or not. If yes, it might have been a good idea to make it look a little less "normal", to maybe emphasize the other-ness of the world, make it look more "paradisical" maybe. If it's supposed to be this world, it might have been a good idea to make the landscape more like the one above to show that it's the same world.
It's interesting that you chose to separate the two worlds so clearly with a straight line instead of following the natural curve of the land. To me, this might symbolize the abruptness of death, or maybe it's supposed to make the picture look more conceptual and stylized. What I don't quite understand is how the body of the sheep lines up with the body of water it seems to be trapped it - the part of its head that's in the top picture and its very back don't seem to line up with the blue part of the image. But this might be due to the perspective.
I don't have much to say on the technique, because the drawing is clean and not overly detailed. The lower picture's lighting seems to come from a sun partially obscured by clouds, hence the "spotty" shadows. I can't quite tell where the sun is - it's not terribly noticable, but the shadows seem to hint at different sun positions.
All in all, this is a very interesting picture with a great concept and an appropriate choice of colours. I've enjoyed looking at it and thinking about it. Well done!

Thanks for your response, reading your intention behind the image makes it even more interesting. Yes, the contrast between beautiful dream and harsh reality comes across nicely in the picture. I guess I imagine that if there's an afterlife, it would have a dream-like quality to it, too, so I assumed the dead sheep really has moved on to another world. But it's also that the bare bones imply that the sheep has been dead for some time.

That's rather sad,
but still a cool idea.
