Description
Squeee! It's baby Kitaro from GeGeGe no Kitaro, my obsession that I've had for a few weeks. A little half-human and half-yokai boy with an eyeball (Medama Oyaji) for a dad, and just the KYOOTEST thing EVAR. I've spent three weeks watching almost all the 2007 episodes (I'm at 52 right now) and the 90s, 80s (which is my fave of them btw!), 70s, and 60s version and staying up til 5 am watching them all.
I know. GEEK!
Title is a play off the famous children's book Are You My Mother? And no he's not gunna squash his daddy.@_@
(BTW, that's a branch by his dad, not a zombie clawing it's way out)
It's kinda funny to think that babies aren't supposed to have any hair when they're born, like fresh from their mother's wombs and stuff. But in this case, since Kitaro was born as part of half-human, half yokai/yurei bloodline (and right when his mom was buried -an unusual way of giving birth) it's exceptional. I mean, he does have some neat powers, so I think it's natural for him being a clan of the Ghost Tribe to have that sort of ability to have a full head of hair at birth. And his hair turning into needles and firing them like missiles. How cool is THAT?
I'll color this later, since my muse is somewhat igniting back to it's original way; and also having newly acquired the complete package of the Adobe Master Collection CS4 software to which I'm the proud owner of, and to which I shall abuse later when I get the chance to.
Also, I just got new art supplies (new pencils, large Robert Bateman sketchbook, and big pack of Copic multi liner drawing pens), so add that to that to the list of things I'm excited about.
Anywho, Kitaro and his dad © Shigeru Mizuki

I was born with a ton of hair, as was my sister. Guess it depends on various families... More importantly, he's so cute! He looks like he's about to pick up Medamaoyaji and stick him in his mouth or something! <3 Kitarou was such a precious baby. -^^-

I guess folicle genetics are different, but I mean enough hair to cover his entire left side of his face.
I'm working on the colored version though, it's a stagnating process!

I love using Robert Bateman sketchbooks. I use the biggest and the 8x11 sizes!
Yup, pale yellow!

I only used it once.
Throughout high school it's been these...black hardcover sketchbooks.
Which I say are nice, and usually make my own cover for them, but the book overall always falls apart, starting at the spine. @@

This is a crazy little series. I only saw the oldest version, but I've always been fascinated with obake, yokai and other creatures from Japanese mythology, so of course I immediately thought "dude, this series is crack. "
The "Are You My Mother"? spoof idea also fits perfectly.

Schreibaby-Zephyr In reply to Sassobabe [2009-02-02 06:03:01 +0000 UTC]
No, Tiff, the series ain't crack. Scry-ed is crack!
It's kinda like a pre-Spirited Away for kids, but the plot line is priceless. Every creature is based off actual yokai, but doesn't overdo like like InuYasha, or Scooby-Doo without the cliche 70s stoner chick or something.
BTW, check out Hakaba Kitaro PLZ. It's a really mind-boggling and has a deep and compelling series. It's based off the original manga.
Seriously I command thee. Watch an ep and tell me what you think. It may appear a little creepy at first (not gross or macabre), but just watch, it gets interesting. Trust me.

Hey, I've seen AMV Hell 0. I've SEEN creepy and macabre. Almost nothing shocks me these days. It's like the complete opposite of being internet virginal. I'm desensitized!
I'll heed your advice and look it up on YouTube sometime.

KITARO 4-EVER!
btw do u have any info on the "Vampire Elite" from the 90's series? He is my favorite villian from the 2007, 90's, and 60's series. He is a vampire with a magic guitar

Schreibaby-Zephyr In reply to Technomaru [2009-02-02 03:42:38 +0000 UTC]
Oh him?
Yeah, he was on the NES games along with his older brother. And he appeared on ep 9 on Hakaba Kitaro. Um as for the 90s? I dunno, I'm still in the process of watching all the eps possible and haven't come across him yet. I wish there were as many 90s and 80s eps as there are the '07s eps (which can be found on 56.com).
Dude, I loved it in Hakaba Kitaro where he meets Nezumi for the first time and hypnotizes him into singing his theme song when he was playing his guitar. LOL

Same guy, cuz there are no other vampires that use a guitar to warp the wills of others. If you've played Ninja Kid (US) or seen the GeGeGe no Kitao for the Jap NES vid on YouTube, you will see him there.

I played both versions on a emulator. I always liked fighting Vampire Elite Johnny. Btw in the anime u watched, did they have a explaination for why Kitaro helps humans and good Yokai, just wondering.

I was trying to figure that one myself. See, I'm looking around as to why Hakaba Kitaro was modified into GeGeGe no Kitaro.
I read around that Kitaro is understanding of human emotions such as love and the like (though in the anime he's beyond that). In the 2007 movie he falls in love with a human girl and tries to win her love over.
In the 80s version, he wants yokai and humans to live in harmony, so I guess that's the best explanation I can come up with. :/

well they wanted Kitaro to be popular with kids so instead of making him a troublemaking ghost boy they made him a defender of justice and wants to make peace with humans. I have seen the 60's series!
I often Compare Kitaro and his yokai with the X-men for that reason... I guess that makes Nuraihyon's minions as the brotherhood.
the live action movie is on DVD in america!!!

I saw the movies already but I want to see the second one with the english subs (saw it without them once).
Dude, the first one, I was all, "Kitaro is supposed to be missing a left eye!"
I would compare Kitaro to a Jolteon, since they employ electricity and shoot pins from their hairs.

I'd like to see the 2008 anime movie, one short involves Kitaro encountering the versions of himself from the 60's, 70's, 80's, and 90's!
you seem pretty cool!

I think Kitaro is the best supernatural anime ever since Shaman King.

Oh hohoho,
Kitaro (his genre, really) gave birth to Princess Monoke and Spirited Away. He's been around WAAAAY before Shamen King. In fact, the first conception of Kitaro came around in 1933 when Mizuki drew out panels for the comic idea "Postcard Kitaro", and it had Kitaro, Medama Oyjai, and Ratman on there, and 26 years later the manga Hakaba Kitaro was born!
Really, what part of the Bay Area?
